Title: Win2k not retaining printer installs
Post by: datazing on February 13, 2003, 03:01:28 PM
Thanks for your time everyone.  Ill give you a little background.  Theres a HP laserjet 6L connected to \"Shauns\" computer.  My problem is at \"Warrens\" pc.   After i connect to shauns printer and install the drivers, it appears that the printer install went fine.  Now if i open an application and want to print to the HP printer,  I go [file] [print] select the HP printer and the \"print\" button is now greyed out and i cant print.  If i make that same printer the default printer, and i try to print it says something to the effect of \"you must install a printer before you can print\".  I dont know what the heck the problem is... ive never seen this issue on ANY of the other 15 pc\'s in my office.  It appears that no matter how many times i install this printer, and go throught the motions of installing the printer,  it never saves any of the install info.  These damn salesmen are gonna be the death of me if i cant figure this out.  I appreciate your time, Thank you

Can you recount the number of PC\'s connecting to the PC with the printer.  If you get 10 then your problem is that the PC hosting the printer is a workstation install.  Workstation or Pro both lock down to only 10 connections allowed.  You need Server to go beyond that.

If this is your problem search google for \"10+ connections to workstation\" or \"turn workstation to server\".  There is a way to break that barrier but it is not supported.  M$ also swears that it is not possiable.
