Title: Heeeellp!! Please..
Post by: RyuhouaS on January 21, 2011, 09:54:06 PM
Ok, so I try to log on to my account on windows on this computer and it freezes before even getting to the desktop, usually 3 out of every 4 times. THEN when i finally get into the main desktop page, it lasts for like 10-20 minutes until my mouse pointer disappears and it freezes again. I really don't know if it's a software problem, but this computer is new as of 2 months ago, so i highly doubt it's hardware. I can get into Safe mode okay, but i can't get into regular windows without my computer freezing up all the time. I tried using System Recovery in Safe mode, but that didn't solve the problem. Also HJT seems to have a problem also. The message I get is "For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file." Here's my HijackThis log:

Ok so since my first post I found that I've been getting random redirects on firefox, and I went to http://forums.majorg...ad.php?t=230267 (http://"http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=230267") this thread and followed the directions for cleanup and I'm pretty sure that it fixed the redirect problem. But it's still freezing up at random times.
Here's the OTL:

Also I'm starting to think it could possibly be my video card that's making it freeze, because it freezes mostly when im watching a video on windows media player. But it also does freeze when im logging onto windows, usually after it's already frozen and i turned it off for a few minutes and started it again.

Are you still getting redirected?

Yes. It's still redirecting me, usually to some random fake anti-spyware, or registry protector or something that I know is gonna be bad, so i just try to close the window when it happens.

Right, well I did that, and it came up with 1 "cure" and i rebooted when it told me to, and windows wouldn't load now. I know it's not a cracked version because it came loaded on the computer from dell. I'm posting this from my brother's computer.

Now what's happening is, Windows tries to load, and it gets started, then it just restarts and takes me to the screen that normally has the choices for reboot in safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, safe mode with networking, or start windows normally. Only now it says, run startup repair or start windows normally. When i tried start windows normally it just starts loading windows then restarts again. Startup repair doesn't fix anything either, I've tried 4 different times now. I tried another system recovery from that point, and that didn't work. I'm not exactly sure what to do now, but I'm fully willing to completely uninstall and reinstall windows if i have to.

My brother has a version of Windows 7 that hasn't been used yet so I could install that one, but I have a sticker on my computer with a product key that he also says i can send in for a hard copy of Windows to install, or I might be able to download the hard copy on another computer and burn it to a disc as long as I have the Windows 7 product key, is this true?

Is there a way to remove everything from my hard drive, and reinstall windows without doing that? Would that work to rid myself of all these problems? I know it's probably not the preferred way of fixing a computer, but I have a lot of time on my hands in the next few days, and I won't have to pay for a new version of windows.

Also, I've been informed that I don't have a video card, it's all run internally. This computer was a gift so I didn't know. I'm almost positive the original freezing problem is due to the fact that I don't have a video card.

Do you know what file was cured by TDSKiller?
I thought you may of ran it earlier as you linked to MajorGeeks link earlier, which included running the tool

Is this a laptop or Desktop computer?
Can you supply the Exact Make/model of computer please

Is there anything you need to save on this computer?

No, i dont remember what file it said, i'm sorry. And I'm pretty sure I did use TDS before through MajorGeeks but this didn't happen then. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 580. It's a Desktop. And there really isn't anything i need to save, the only files on it that I would miss are already backed up on an external drive, and I've only installed like 1 program that I actually use and it's a game that I own, so I can reinstall that.

If your computer came with a Recovery partition, you may not need the Disks

Before continuing, disconnect any extra periphials, such as External Harddrives and Printers
Just leave the necessaties> Mouse/keyboard connected
From Dell's instructions:

====================================================================
Performing Dell Factory Image Restore

1. Turn on the computer.

2. When the DELL logo appears, press <F8> several times to access the Advanced Boot
Options
Window.
NOTE: If you wait too long, you will have to shut down the computer and start again

3. Select Repair Your Computer.
The System Recovery Options window appears.

4. Select a keyboard layout and click Next.

5. To access the recovery options, log on as a local user.
To access the command prompt, type administrator in the User name field, then click OK.
NOTE: If you typed 'administrator' and it doesn't work, try your Admin username
Nick

6. Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
The Dell Factory Image Restore welcome screen appears.
NOTE: Depending upon your configuration, you may need to select Dell Factory Tools,
then Dell Factory Image Restore.

7. Click Next. The Confirm Data Deletion screen appears.

8. Click the check box to confirm that you want to continue reformatting the hard drive and
restoring the system software to the factory condition, then click Next.

The restore process begins and may take five or more minutes to complete. A message
appears when the operating system and factory‑installed applications have been
restored to factory condition.

9. Click Finish to restart the computer.

====================================================

Let me know if that works for you

Well, I had Dell DataSafe Backup and Restore.  or something like that.  Under the description it said it's the one that restores to factory image.
That didn't work.  Also when hitting F8, at the Dell screen it gave me options for loading in Safe Mode, but none of those will load either.  It begins to list the driver files to load into safe mode, then it restarts in the same way.

What problems occurred?

Safe mode is the only option you see?
It shouldn't be, what other options are there?

Did you create the Backup DVD's when you first got the computer?
Or has Dell created them for you? They may not have on hopes you make them when you first got your computer

It ran through the restore like it should, but the thing still just won't load windows, it starts too load, then restarts. When I try to go back to the system recovery tools menu, i need to login to administrator, because there is no "nick" user anymore.

The options when hitting f8 were system repair(where the recovery tools are), safe mode, safe mode with networking, and safe mode with command prompt.

You should of created the DVD's as soon as you got your computer, or earliest convenience
Did Windows 7 come preinstalled on your system?

Are you sure your choosing Dell Factory Image Recovery and DataSafe options when recovering and following the prompts
It's possible your directions might be similiar to the following

=========================================================================
Log in as a user who has administrative credentials, and then click OK.
Click Dell Factory Image Restore.
In the Dell Factory Image Restore window, click Next.
Click to select the Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition check box.
Click Next.
The computer is restored to the default factory configuration.
