Title: Networking Win 2000 Pro
Post by: tech on May 31, 2001, 03:26:56 PM
Is there an easy way to use a Win 2000 Pro PC on two different LANs? Like a laptop at work on the network (domain) and at home on a home network (workgroup).

Yes, just assign to IP address to the Network card, and when you are using it at home in the domain box there should be the computer name, log onto this with a local user account.

In win 2000 it is not as easy as in NT4. The only way to do it is to go to Network and Dial-up connections and change under Advanced Properties, Network Indentification from domain to a workgroup. That is all I could find but that is to much for a ordinary user. There must be an easier way.

There is a quicker way Right click on My Network Places
then select properties.

the other solution is Start, settings network & dial up settings.

My point was it is a problem to switch back and fort. Every time you switch back to the domain you need a admin password to join again. It is not user friendly.

Unless the domain you have joined has some type of strict logon guidelines set (mandatory user profiles or the like), you should have no problem using the methods already mentioned to sign on to W2KP and access your home network.

Any additional information about your setups would be appreciated.
