Recently ERD commander 3.01 was released. It uses windows PE to allow you to boot from cd and run a windows-like GUI.
One useful way to use ERD commander is to put it on the hard drive. This way if you cant start windows, you simply select ERD commander from the boot menu, and a couple seconds later you can troubleshoot it.
To make ERD commander boot from hard drive i used this as reference: http://www.hardwaregeeks.com/modules.php?o...cles&file=winpe (http://\"http://www.hardwaregeeks.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Articles&file=winpe\")
Here\'s how to do it step by step:
1 - Install recovery console, using %CDROM%i386winnt32.exe /dudisable /cmdcons /unattend (%cdrom%=your cdrom)
2 - Copy i386 folder, license.txt, winbom.ini to c:
3 - rename c:i386 to c:minint
4 - Copy c:mininttxtsetup.sif to c:cmdconstxtsetup.sif
5 - If you want, edit c:boot.ini and change \"Microsoft Windows Recovery Console\" to whatever you want it to say.
Now this works perfectly fine, however there\'s 2 minor annoyances with this:
1 - You have to accept the license agreement
2 - it prompts you for the license, which you have to paste.
Does anyone know how to automate these 2 things? I used previous versions of erd commander and i believe i wasnt prompted for this, so if possible id like to disable being prompted for these 2 things.
Also, Longhorn build 4008 uses windows pe. I noticed that in the boot.ini it adds something like multi(0)cdrom(1)... Has anyone tried editing the boot.ini so winpe is launched from cd?
