Has anyone seen this problem, I have a Zip 250 ATAPI connected to a Promise Ultra100 TX2 IDE PCI controller card, hard drives are on a different Promise Ultra100 TX2 IDE PCI (yes, I have 2 cards in the system) each has their own channel and a DVD-ROM drive on motherboard primary as master and CD-ROM as slave and on the motherboard secondary I have a CD-RW buy itself. I know I could probably connect the ZIP as slave to the burner but I do alot of on the fly burning and I didn't want to take the chance of the Zip drive complicating anything.
Anyway, here is the problem, I can't boot in WinXP unless there is a disk in the drive when I boot up. It's almost like it thinks it is a hard drive and it's waiting for it to spin up or something. Anybody know of a fix for this keeping the current configuration?
Thanks...

Did you try and see if the Zip drive does that in other computers? Cause it could be a faulty drive.

Best I can tell it has to do with a firmware change to the newer ZIP drives (UDMA 2 instead of PIO 3). WINXP sees this as a Hard Drive waiting to spin up when connected to the Promise Ultra100 TX2. When I put a disk in everything is good. For now I've just moved it to the MB controller as a slave to my burner, they both show up as UDMA 2 and work fine. Maybe a patch or fix will show up sometime soon.
Thanks...
