Title: Red Hat 9.0

I thought Red Hat Linux was a \"pay for\" operating system. I also thought that the newest version was 8.0. Could some please help me out here.

ok, Linux is a free OS. you can download and use for free Redhat 9.0 (which is the latest version). If you want support and updates for Redhat, then you pay for that service.

I installed redhat 9.0 and when i booted up it asked for login thing but i on the setup it only asked for me to put in a password. i tried a lot of combinations and none of them worked anyone know how to get past that?

What does the screen look like?  Is it in text-mode?  If so then try typing "root" for the login, then type the password you chose.

i tried the root and made my own password that works but now i dont know how to get past the root@localhost thing. sorry im new to linux i bet its easy for all you ppl i just thought i would see if i liked it.
