hi
this is my first post here but ive been reading the forums for a while
situation/
my grandad has XP with Sp1 on (all on 1 cd) and has activated it
i want to borrow it install Xp but not activate it.
is there a way to activate XP with SP1 onit like the hex method for Xp
i know theres a whole post about it but it wasnt really clear for XP with sp1
so is there a way to get round XP with Sp1
on the install cd cover it says
'with service pack 1' onit so i presume i have to install SP1??

If he has it installed on a computer you just copy a file called wpa.dbl and place it in your c:windows/system32 folder after your install XP and your done. No Activation required.

That won't work. Backing up that file is only good for restoring on the same system it came from. Perhaps if you have the exact same config, exact same parts, maybe.
