And has forgotten his Administrator password but remembers his regular user password but not his regular user name. EEK I have no Idea how to fix this for him is the only way to do it re-installing 2000 pro or would I have to format the hd first ?

If you can get your hands on it, the best tool in the world for this kind of stuff is ERD commander 2002. It boots from a CD into its own windowing system and allows you to change any user settings (including passwords) and edit the registry. You can change drivers and make hardware changes. Its a great program but isnt cheap.

If you havent checkout out winternals or sysinternals they have some great freebies too on their site.
