Title: boot virus??

Help. I was installing win2k on my machine on a blank WD 100 GB drive. When I booted from the CD iit says somthing on the lines of Boot Virus! Write Y or N\"...................is this a boot sector virus on my cd or is that even possible. I have a feeling it is because it said that last time I and my MBR was toasted and i had to send my HDD back to WD..anyone please help.

p.s. plus my computer restarts itself all the time for no reason., especially when i 1st start windows...

It's normal for this to happen when you install windows.  It's a setting in your bios that will warn you before anything writes to the boot sector.  Windows (along with probably any other OS and some programs) will write to the boot sector when installed or even when doing repair to the hard drive (i.e. chkdsk or scandisk).  It's safe to allow the write then.  If you don't then the install may be screwed up.

Thanks for the information. I just thought it was strange that it said \"boot virus\" when I was installing win2k..ive never really seen it b4...

On with the problem then, why the heck does it just restart all the time? Somedays it will do it right after windows loads and some days it will do it randomly. Sometimes it will restart when the graphics change and it clicks and starts up again. any ideas? thanks again

any windows install should give this warning it would be more honest to the user.

You can either go into the BIOS and disable the boot virus check or ignore it.
As far as Win2k rebooting occasionally, after you install Win2k, make sure all the drivers for your hardware is updated. If it still continues, you may have one piece of hardware that doesn’t like running under Win2k.
The most common problem is faulty memory modules.
