Title: WinXP won't open floppys anymore
Post by: cheekz on May 01, 2003, 07:31:41 PM
Iv'e friggin tried anythang and everythang. I insert a floppy into my drive, I open the floppy icon, it gives a message \" Please insert a disk into Drive A: \". I've tried new floppy drives, reverting windows xp, new floppys, etc. The only thing I havnt tried is replacing the floppy cables, and one more thing the power is going to the drive and I am very highy skilled in technical issues but this one is a thorn in my side.

Much needed help required here. peace and godbless to whom helps me.

As a test, can you boot from a disquette?  If so, chances are it can't be your drive, your cable or the IDE floppy port.  If you can't boot from a floppy, then you will know that WinXP isn't the culprit.  Change the cable, you did say you haven't tried it and it will take only a little time to test.  If it still doesn't boot, try a known good floppy drive.  And IF it STILL doesn't work, then the IDE floppy port is the most likely culprit.  It could also be a BIOS setting, but then I 'm sure you checked those already...
