Well i want to upgrade my current processor. Its an Intel p3 500 mghz chip. I was wondering what do i need exactly? obviously a new processor, but are there any other accessories that i have to get as well? I want to get something like a 1.5ghz processor. something around that. I think i am going to go with Intel, i have had good luck with them. what kind of prices am I looking at? The computer is a Dell Dimension XPS T500 if that makes a difference. would i need to get one specifically for that computer or are they universal? Also, would it be wise to just buy a whole new motherboard or just a new processor?

You have no choice but to buy a new motherboard and new RAM. Upgrading a Dell may very difficult. I've heard that the connecter for the power supply and the socket on the motherboard are specialy designed that only they can fit together, exclusive to Dell. Your old PSU may be too weak anyway, you should have 350Watts+. Personnaly I would buy a whole new computer when you factor in the price of the CPU, RAM, Case/PSU + the hassel. I would get an AMD CPU because they better value for the money.
