Title: Xbox Game Demos
Post by: watts3000 on November 04, 2002, 09:34:26 AM
So I picked up the December issue of the Official Xbox Magazine this weekend at the advice of Penny Arcade (http://\"http://www.penny-arcade.com\"). The included demo disk had Bloodrayne, Splinter Cell, Panzer Dragoon Orta, Toe Jam and Earl 3, and maybe a few others.

Initial reactions:

1. Bloodrayne (http://\"http://www.bloodrayne.com\") - freaking sweet. Gameplay was nice with a selectable 1st person, 3rd person, 3rd person w/ strafe controls as well as control sets for lefties. The controls were a lil weird at first but it was a hella fun demo. You have to check this one out.

2. Splinter Cell (http://\"http://www.splintercell.com/us/\") - very realistic (other than the jumping). I have never been good at tactical games like that, but it was really fun. Thermal vision and night vision were fantastic.

3. Panzer Dragoon Orta (http://\"http://www.panzer-dragoon.com/eng/index.html\") - are you kidding me? It was NOT what I expected. Fixed path game w/ less than stellar fun levels....sad, very sad. I expected a lot out of this game.

4. Toe Jam... (http://\"http://www.tjande.com/tje3.html\") - Boring. Didn't get into the originals on Sega and I didn't get into this one. The game was confusing and I just didn't have fun with it. The graphics were very nice though, so if you liked the originals then this may be a game you want to pick up.

That's all for now. /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

EDIT: Note that these games are still in demo! This is not the final game...not anywhere close. These games had to have time to be burned onto disc in time for the December issue of OXM. I will revisit these games when the game hits the shelves.

lol....I am sure MS would just love you selling pre-modded MDK9.0 Xboxes. Played more Splinter Cell and Bloodrayne....I need those games along with MechAssault and Dynasty Warriors 3 (have it for PS2).

Yes, you can run linux on the XBox, but you have to have a modchip installed first (from what I can see, any modchip will suffice).  There was an article a while back where they got Windows to run on the Xbox, but if you read closely the XBox was really running Linux, and they were running Windows inside a virtual machine like VMWare.

ok ok ok this is just mind blowing did you guys read that thing about a year ago about a kid from wales that managed to get bill gates credit card details and send a pack of viagra to bill gates house! (i think he actualy works for microsoft now) well heres my plan i dont suppose it would be to hard to find bill's address so ill buy the x-box send it to you then you put linux on it! then send it back to me so i can glue a big [censored]ing penguin on the front and ill mail it to him.

now heres the fun part ill put i tiny camera inside and we can broadcast the look on his face for millions to see JESUS CHRIST i bet he would actualy explode!

or not!

I honestly don't think Bill cares. Every box sold helps out the Xbox cause....MS may have shut down Lik Sang's mod chips, but they are letting the linux project go on. Every console that is sold ups the number of Xboxs sold and MS really wants to surpass the 32 Million or so PS2s out there...

                    You forgot to login again. /smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Don't get me wrong, it would be funny as hell to do that...but remember that its all business to Bill....he is selling consoles regardless of what you do with them and while he may lose some money on each one sold, catching PS2 is on the forefront of his mind regarding Xbox.

I got word now that the consoles are in fact going to drop. Apparently it was just posted online a lil premature...according to a friend, some EBs are already matching this price....Still no 1st person experience w/ this though.

By the way guys, I just thought I'd mention this.

Every Xbox M$ sell costs them money,  they are making nothing on the hardware, and selling below cost.

The reason? well most of their games are around 100 bucks. (AUD) and generally people that buy an Xbox are gonna end up getting at least a couple of games.

Its the same thing as buying a printer at 80 bucks,  and then paying 50 dollars for a replacement ink cartridges.. they know you will, and they make their money that way.
Why do you think a tiny box of ink goes for that much money?

Anyway, taking the above into account, you can bet your life M$ are not happy about the  modding/Linux situation, they haven't tackled the sourceforge project because there is not much they can do about it. who do they sue and why? its a GPL project, and its only supplying the software, not the mod chips, the mod chips are the thing that makes it possible and the only real area MS can attack.

Linux on an Xbox is actually pretty good, since an Xbox is actually a 700mhz PC in a little box, why wouldn't it be good? you can even replace the joystick ports with normal USB ports, because thats exactly what they really are. (USB ports I mean).

Anyway, I didn't really plan on commenting here, I've been looking around madly for any info on running Bloodrayne on Linux.
