Title: floppy drive causes w2k hang on startup
Post by: FUR on July 18, 2003, 10:51:24 AM
I am trying to solve the following problem. My comp. mtb ASUS A7V266-C, good components etc., w2k installed randomly (almost always right now) doesn't want to startup. It hangs with movable mouse pointer right before the dialog with user name and password should appear (HDD appears to do some work during it). The only solution that works (sometimes) is to either restart in safe mode, do nothing and restart normally. The other is to disconnect the floppy drive and start up without it. This may seem to be obvious - the defective floppy. But I have bought new one and in the dos mode under W2k safe (or when i manage to start it up) it works perfectly. to make the info complete: i updated with the latest bios and SP4 for W2k. Could Anyone help me please ??

/unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />   I think the reason why your locking up during when your username or Os is loading is that you have too many unwanted programs running simultaneously during start up. Try this: Start tab>Run>type msconfig then ok>go to startup tab & disable or uncheck all unnecessary programs.   /rolleyes.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Did you already swap the floppy cable w/ a known good one? If not, try it.  If it didn't work. There's something wrong either w/ the controller or power connectors/cables. Try this one, if its not recognized in the OS but its recognized in the bios, reinstall your OS but dont format.  Hope these would help you!
