Ok I recently put windows 2k on my computer, just to find out there is NO msconfig utility
/mad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> so I can get rid of the useless startup programs (i used to have win ME). Turns out that I can get the windows XP one (it says it works with 2000) from This Site (http://\"http://www.thetechguide.com/downloads.html\"). Well heres the question: if I get the windows XP version of msconfig will it work with windows 2k?
If It can work with windows 2k what do i do with the zip file with msconfig in it? where do i unzip it to? Thanks for any help.

you could run msconfig.exe anywhere on your computer and it will work. However, if you would like to use it in the command line (run) like it does in ME/XP, then you must unzip it in Winnt\system32.

Why not just use the "services" under Administrative tools and set the items to disable or manual start?

ok thx very much guys for your help. I'm not quite sure where in the "services" the programs are that i want to disable (and i dont want to mess anything up) so i am going to get the msconfig utility right now. thanks a lot for your help

Good one CJTech that will work too. Guest_Wolfmanis probably right too although I've never tried it myself. In my XP msconfig.exe is located in c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386 & c:\windows\$NTServivePackUninstall$.

Services are in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Services. Just look down the list for the App. that you want to stop from starting.
