please remove this link for respect the work of mandrake & perhaps help mandrake to close financial prob.
MAndrake give for the momenbt access to iso only to registred/beta user. And share the iso only when we could find mandrake in store
PLEASE RESPECT THIS ENTREPRISE IN DIFFICULTY
-
Are they anymore sites that have this available? Currently your FTP limit is set to three which is understandable due to the popularity. If anyone has these downloaded I have some serious bandwidth that I can divvy out for free. I just really want to get my hand on this OS.
Thanks,
Matt

Normally I would agree with the poster above but keep the link up for now. I payed for Mandrakeclub membership and almost a week later have not been able to log on to MandrakeClub website to get the iso. Customer service has also ignored me. Mandrake linux rules but Mandrake customer service is terrible. I plan on putting iso on Kazaa when I finally get it. Linux will not be subverted by a Microsoft wannabe French company.
/mad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
-
But that doesn't change the fact that we WANT Mandrake to continue existing because of the good distro they create. It's not nice for them to ignore anyone, still i'm sure that they have alot of problems and a CS that isn't so numerous as they would like it to be...
/dry.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'<_<\' />
-
Hey ! Mandrake is not a french Micro$oft !!!
Mandrake is the best french Linux distro.
I also want to get the ISO...
-
I still struggle to understand this line from mandrakesoft.com
"Free Software can only remain healthy with your financial support, so please join the Mandrake Users Club today."
Whilst i don't have a problem for them wanting people to pay for their hard work - nor do i have a problem with them giving away their software for free - that sentence just doesnt make sense!
How can free software be free if you are giving them financial support?
Mandrake is a great distribution - one of the easiest for newbies but still powerful enough for the experienced veteran - but it isn't the only distribution out there.
Slackware may not be anywhere near as easy to use, but it is faster and generally more stable and secure (providing you know what you are doing) and i don't seem them asking you to pay for free software.
not-to-mention that this isn't the only site offering the iso's for download. Mandrake's own website lists a million and a half different mirror sites where it can be downloaded - none of those sites ask for a donation for mandrakesoft.
-
Please keep the Link up.
I was searching hours for a source to Mandrake 9.2 ISO.
I found some Bittorrent Links but Torrent suxx!
-
Bullocks, pal, I have used both Slackware and Mandrake. Both are just as secure as you want and make them to be. Also, for the most recent boards, and I'm talking those with FSB 800MHz and Intel Pentiums of 3 GHz and faster, Mandrake is way faster than Slackware.
-
If someone already finished downloading, maybe someone can open a mirror with Mandrake ISOs?
Would be great!
-
someone needs to setup bittorrent for the files...

I used a resuming ftp client (WS FTP LE) to get the isos from the Portuguese server. The first cd was interrupted twice, but resumed and downloaded correctly.
The autorun does say 9.1, but it is 9.2.

The autorun show that's the 9.1, it's not normal, where's the bug ?
It's like that for the bittorent's iso, is it a Mandrale error ???
-
Yes, it appears to be a Mandrake error.
-
But there isn't the 9.2's logo on the background of the autorun, is somebody has installed it ?
-
What about the official release? If it's coming by the end of October as they said then they'd better get a move on, it's midday on the 31st already and there's no sign of it on their site.
-
Why don't you guys just wait another few days, when Mandrake will officially release its ISOs onto all the normal mirrors. I run an official mirror for Mandrake, I am also looking forward to the day when it will sync with Mandrake's 9.2. But until that day, I am not going to shoot Mandrake in the foot by making my own ISO.
Mandrake almost went bust last year, because it wasn't getting enough revenue. If people continue to grab its stuff for free, it *will* go bust. All they are trying to do is say 'if you want it first, you have to pay, if you are willing to wait a month, it's free'. That seems reasonable to me.
To the person who said 'how can they ask people to pay for free software' : you really need to read up what 'free software' means. It doesn't mean zero cost software. It means software with freedom.
-
I don't see any difference in releasing Mandrake using the traditional tree or the iso images. Using tools like wget it's pretty easy for everyone to obtain the whole tree structure and then create CDs.
I don't think not releasing iso images together with the release tree will bring Mandrake more subscriptions to Mandrake Club or will make more people buy packages. Who want to support Mandrake just do it, images or not.
Moreover, if people don't buy packages and don't subscribe, reasons are elsewhere:
- Lacking support (see some post above).
- Availability of other zero cost Linux distros which have comparable features to Mandrake.
- A good part of the software reserved to clubers, is freely downloadable from the Internet.
I agree with you Will Smith, free software is freedom, but also accessibility.
Where is the freedom if you have to pay to have access to software?
Having source codes is just for very expert users. For common users, free software just means without cost.
Hi
-
I'm a newbie and downloaded the whole raw tree from their site.. Now I can't figure out how the hell to put it together. Someone mentioned wget, but that is a linux application... I'm coming from windows. I'll checkup here for any updates that may answer my question, but I'm going to start on downloading the iso's thru bittorrent just incase no one responds.
-
linux-mandrake.com CLAIMS it has been released/will be released, the "end" of October, while this is the 31st, i.e. the END , so who cares? If it's out, it's out.... they dont like it, they should have delayed that in their announcement, ....
-
btw, why would I want to pay them for a product, that, they never sent me what i ordered the last time? whats there to pay for, a rip... i ended up downloading the ISO's, that was back when 9.1 came out!
-
To create CD images, you just have to use the mkcd tool which is located in the root directory of raw tree of MDK 9.2.
If you saved downloaded files under Windows, in a FAT partition, you should be able to create your iso images booting from a Linux Live CD (like Knoppix) always running mkcd. Then you can burn CD from Windows.
Hi
-
cool, thanks ap78... I have a 10GB ntfs extended partition that I can wipe out and format as fat .. I've seen people use that knoppix before so I'll get that and use it. Thanks alot.. I'll come back and post my results...
-
So it's we're the 1st, and the 9.2's isos aren't here.......

Exactly, I don't want to download 'bootleg' ISOs for moral and practical reasons, but I would like to get my OS now it's supposed to be here.
-
If you're in a hurry to have Mandrake 9.2, just choose a mirror close to you, open a shell window and type
wget -r -l=100 ftp://...
The download time is just the same for the three iso images.
Hi :-)
-
OK, enough is enough.
Witholding Mandrake 9.2 for clubmembers walks to the edge with the GPL. Selling 9.2 to the public without releasing the free version crosses the line.
Mandrake, at this point I am praying for your demise. Then perhaps some REPUTABLE company that understands the spirit of Open Source and contract law will pick up on the work and handle it properly.
If someone has copies of the 9.2 final, please post them. I will do my best to download them and find a fast mirror for everyone else.

I made a mistake: I told the mkcd tool is in the root directory of the raw tree, but it's located in the misc directory of the same tree.
Moreover, it can be run using the MakeCD script.
Hi
-
i am almost done downloading the isos from bittorrent............i will post them up for download via kazaa lite when i am finished..........its a bitch to find out where to download 9.2................i dunno why mandrake is being gay about letting people download it.......its open source, it shouldnt be for profit. i like mandrake and all but they are being dumbasses about this whole thing.
-
Perhaps Mandrake is now only for developers and those willing to purchase it?
This is a very bad precident and poor business.
I don't think it is too much to expect Mandrake to keep there word.
This certainly is not endearing Mandrake to anyone.
There is no reason not to release the ftp version to the public. They are selling the release at this point for christsakes.
-
I'm happy to say that i'm going to use Mandrake only for Linux-learning. After this, i'll take Debian and the true opensource's spirit.
-
Mandrake probably postponed the release because of the LG-CDROM issue - 9.2 could fry these drives because of some weird commands. Take a look at pclinuxonline (http://\"http://www.pclinuxonline.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=7918\").
I think they need some time to correct the error.
-
I don't care about that !!!
Why don't they give us the isos and after, when the bug will be fixed, they will be able to give us a patch !
A lot of people don't have these f****** CD-ROM player and are waiting for the 9.2 !
-> joe8mofo: excellent idea, thank's !
-
your right joe, i along with many others have been waiting for oct 1st to come so I can download the iso's but now we have to wait even longer whats up with that bullsh**, hel* even microsoft wont do that.

ap78 makes some very good points.
I have had first had experience with mandrake's pathetic customer service. And I was a paying customer. I would never buy another package from them. It's completely ridiculous.

this is the newbie from a previous post asking about the raw tree.. I got the knoppix and booted to it, but since I am almost a complete newbie to linux it is pretty much impossible to get the mkcd going. I could only write to my freshly formatted fat drive after unmounting and then mounting again. Then permission this and that. So I said forget it, I'll just use version 9.1 wich is already in iso format, wich was easy to find. I couldn't understand though why I couldn't find that release on mandrakes website. Anyway, I'm just trying different linux versions seeing wich one I like the best and so far redhat was way easy. Plus their site was easy. I'll be using linux to run NAT, Firewall, port forwarding to a windows server & prolly mail too. Maybe RAS as well. I know I'll be in for a long haul and I'm normally a windows guy, but I need to learn the damn linux and different variations so I don't get outdated... Anyway, thanks for the previous help ap78, I may not use it now, but in the future I'm sure I'll understand it.
-
It's really ridiculous now: three days later the annouced date for the public realease, Mandrake is not giving anything: no information, no iso images.
/mad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
I downloaded the raw tree, made the four CDs of the cooker, and tried to install it on my notebook (DELL Inspiron 8000) where Mandrake 9.1 runs perfectly.
I met the following problems:
1) The setup program froze at the end of the third CD, when he asked me to insert the fourth. I rebooted and restarted installation from scratch and this time it didn't crashed. Maybe I waited too much and system tried to go into standby, but I'm not sure. This never happend neither under Mandrake 9.1 setup, nor under RedHat and Slackware setups.
2) The ACPI support doesn't work properly. I can't switch my notebook off without pressing the button. Halting the system make Linux save data, switch the LCD panel off and wait with the power light still on.
On Mandrake 9.1 I could switch it off from KDE, just enabling ACPI from Mandrake Control Center. Now this doesn't work.
/blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
3) I don't agree with the choice of Mandrake to remove shortcuts to Konsole, Control center and Documentation from the panel, leaving only K, Desktop and Home. But this is a little problem, which can be easily solved.
So, I can say my first experience with Mandrake 9.2 was not that good. I like the LILO splash screen, and the revised Galaxy theme, which has a better quality look. But If I have to spend hours to obtain what I already had with Mandrake 9.1, I'm not going to upgrade.
Anyway, I'll wait for the official release of iso images, even if I don't think there will be many differences.
I've always considered Mandrake a good distro, but now I'm looking elsewhere for a really free distro, maybe with less look innovations, but with a best care in hardware support and compatibility, in the case the the iso release will still have the same problems.

Yes we do. Only six anonymous users can be logged into the ftp server at a time so if it's full, you'll get an error message. You can either wait, or contribute to the site to get your own login (and no you don't have to contribute with money, I'd actually prefer some how-to's, articles, etc.).

It seems Mandrakesoft is working on some bugs, so it should be better to wait official releases in order to obtain a more bug free distro.
Hi

goddam hippies. "free software" does not always mean free in the free beer sense. more often people mean it in the free speech sense. if nobody gave mandrake any money, you wouldn't be able to look forward to the next release. dumbass. if you can oafford it, sign up for mandrakeclub, if not, wait, or buy a magazine with the isos on the coverdiscs (linux format (UK) has them on the front this month... £6, 3 cds, full OS, great mag)

First of all, you should be better to wait for the public release because Mandrake is going to add new patches. What you find in a magazine, is just a copy og what has been released to Clubers. If you want to support Mandrake, it's not a good idea to buy them anyway.
Also, FREE SOFTWARE for me is FREE, without cost. Many commercial distros are fully comparable to free ones (Debian, Slackware, ...). Commercial distros just added some configuration tools, a graphical installer, sometimes an updater and some facility.
No real and deep changes, so the OS is based on the work of the Linux community, not on softwarehouses efforts.

Its great, all these people arguing about the fact mandrake have not released 9.2 iso's to the public yet.
If your all that bothered about it, why dont you compile and package your own distro?
Ah thought so, you cant! So instead of bitching why dont you wait untill they decide to release it.
On another note, they have not included anything that isnt already available seperatly. Want better wireless support? Download it. Want AMD64 support? Download it.
Read how to compile your own kernel, instead of waiting for microsoft to release a linux distro!

What's 'gay' about it?

Thanks for trying to crash the server.
-
How are the ISOS that mandrake is going to officially release soon any different from the ones available for download from any of the previously posted mirrors?
-
First, Mandrake has already released ISOs to club members. That's what we have available for download here. They are going to apply some of their updates and create new iso's, before releasing to the general public.

And just what do you think happens when tons of people try connecting every 20 seconds? Granted, there's people even worse than that. You should set your client to try once every minute or so.
Plus...I'm sure it tried connecting more often than every 20 seconds...you have to figure in the time it took to get a response, try to login, get told to wait...so it was probably more like every 10 seconds.

so when is this going to be released?
is mandrake the best n00b distro?
i have redhat but i hate those fokin permisions and i keep [censored]in stuff up when i install icons and themes... and wine...
so i wanted to movve to gentoo but i couldnt figure out how to install it...
so i guess ill try mandrake
-
it says 9.1 at start, but it installs 9.2.
i have no idea why, but its only a concern for 2 minutes until u realise its definately 9.2.
For those who want links, use google and if your smart u will find what your after before long.
One catch is to install nvidia drivers u may need the source for the kernel, which is NOT on th 3 installation cd's.

Monitor the Newsgroup:
alt.binaries.cd.image.linux
The Mandrake ISOs will be posted there for a while...
-
In the /dosutils/lang directory you'll find autorun.conf
which has the typo causing the autorun.exe to read 9.1 in the title bar. change it before burning your cd if you want it to read 9.2
I have downloaded the entire 2.4 GB tree from a mandrake mirror and prepared a boot cd with mkisofs without the RPMS folder.
What i need to know is which files are on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd CD's.
I'd appreciate if somebody who downloaded the iso's could mount the cd somewhere and post the output of ls -lR, so i can make the CD's with the files i have legitimately download from mandrake without being a member.
For your interest, I've used slackware, redhat, debian, suse, and still prefer to roll my own system usually based on slackware. I want to see Mandrake, but I generally don't like these distros and their "we do it all for you behind the scenes" config apps. so i won't be paying for it, it's unlikely i'll be using it much, unless i'm surprised. that's just personal preference, My impression from comments is that Mandrake is great for people who want such a system.
thanks!

There's also a list of links to the iso's at http://www.linuxiso.org/ (http://\"http://www.linuxiso.org/\")

My raw tree has 2.4GB of rpm's under /Mandrake/RPMS and a soft link called RPMS.cooker -> RPMS.
How did you choose to divide up the rpms between the 4 cd's?

looking at the complaints at people not being able to download the mandrake iso's right away this was not the best method at witch mandrake has conducted them selves but it did end up with a neer bug fre distro when the iso's were released if you could not wait and downloaded the i586 tree data and have problems its your own fault for not reading at mandrakesoft they said the tree data was buggy and to wait for the iso's to be relased
to bad for the people taht cant read and are impatent and makes out its mandrakes fault for not pleasing these people for a free operating system
i can only say one thing to these people grow up mandrake is not out to please anyone with the free version its an exmaple of the coperate eddition if you want a good os i would say get away from the free crap and buy something you like !!
and stop complaining

I've tried installing Mandrake 9.1 on an older laptop. It's an IDP. It will only install in a minimal graphical environment. I have 80 megs of Ram. Also, it takes about 6 to 7 hrs to install. It also loads the wrong lcd screen. In windows it was setup as a generic lcd 800/600. I tried to load the correct monitor config at the end of the setup. It gave me a list of tons of monitors but nothing for a generic lcd. If I use the one it gives me on test the screen is half on and half off. At this point the computer freezes. I restart the computer and it takes me to the login screen. No graphics At all. I don't really know enough about linux commands to get to any kind of desktop from the login. Any help would be appreciated.
-
I think it´s not your monitor but your graphics may cause some problems. maybe you find out something bout commandlines, that´s the way it might work

I managed to download the first mandrake 9.2 iso from http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=29 (http://\"http://www.linuxiso.org/distro.php?distro=29\") without a problem. I am currenently trying to download the second one but I keep getting kicked off about every thirty to forty minutes and I started this about 4pm yesterday and I am just now at 50%, but since I'm using download accelerator I can keep resuming. Apparently, it seems like only one iso can be downloaded at a time. I was immediately disconnected when I tried to download the second and third iso together.

I think it's nice that you posted the links to download the 9.2 from (the original post to this thread is what I'm referring to), BUT, it would be nice to see for ourselves that these cds you've posted are authentic. The link to the 92md5sums doesn't work for me (in ftp program WSFTP Pro is a .txt file only, not .asc), and comes up "page not found" (would very much like to see this corrected here). I'd also like to see the link to the key authenticity of these cds posted.
I've got HUGE problems. The 10.0 cds aren't working for me whatever way I go, and I can't find any links to 9.2 anywhere any more, as of day before yesterday. I'd a lot rather install 9.2 than 10.0 anyway; however, I want to believe that these isos you've posted here are authentic, and will work, before I install them. The only way to know for sure, is for you to post the link to the 92md5sums.asc and .mnf.
I'm on Windows '98/XP Pro dual-boot for now, but am going to dump it. I'm extremely tired of the M$ crapola.
If Mandrake would post the 9.2 along with the 10.0, I'd be okay, but right now am at a loss as to what to do. This is the only place 9.2 isos remain, seems like (every single server on 9.2 servers come up "page not found" for me now; in ftp, 9.2 just plain "isn't there" anywhere), so please keep the links; however, please verify them, so we know they're safe to use. I think Mandrake is being just like Windows in the rush to be "out with the old, in with the new". This, I don't like. So, these links to 9.2 cds do need to remain, as Mandrake themselves no longer post them --
please remove this link for respect the work of mandrake & perhaps help mandrake to close financial prob.
MAndrake give for the momenbt access to iso only to registred/beta user. And share the iso only when we could find mandrake in store
PLEASE RESPECT THIS ENTREPRISE IN DIFFICULTY
Linux was always meant to be freeware and mandrake is no exception. The link should stay. Mandrake should not be in financial trouble due to the fact they never should of opened trying to make money from linux.
We all supply to linux and support each and every bit of knowledge. Not one set of persons or companys should try to profit from linux.
So keep all links fully functional.
