Title: Msconfig won't run

Help-

When I try to run Msconfig or Task manager (in XP) the program pops up on the screen and then dissapears in about 1 second.  What is going on?  Any advice is good advice

 hi
try to run the msconfig in the safe  mode and disable all the startup program
try this out ...............this should work

    I have exactly the same problem with ctl+alt+delete.

You could have a trojan horse.  Smart trojans shut down msconfig so that you cant stop it from loading when windows starts.
Really smart trojans stop msconfig, notepad, and regedit from running.
You have to be really tricky to get rid of these pesky trojans.

sounds like a trojan to me -- go to www.lavasoftusa.com and grab yourself a copy of Ad-Aware.

my MSCONFIG failed and i finally figured out that a malicious program had stuck a file called "boot" in system....here is the path C:\boot. .....you can open it with "notepad"...its a "prevent run" file....it prevents msconfig from running and plays hell with trying to restore your system....can't be found by virus detection either...DELETE IT.....this will work!
