I have been trying to install Win2k on my laptop. At first I installed win98 and it worked fine, but when I formatted to install win2k I found a partition (I think it was called systemSave or something like that). I assumed that it wasn't necessary (it was my sisters old computer, a Compaq and I figured it was a system restore space). Nw, however, win2k starts up and it says its missing a file. It tries to find it on a CD but it can't and so windows won't start. I tried to put win98 back on but that didn't work either. The computer won't boot off of the CD (no matter what I use, be it a win98 boot disk, a generic boot disk, the install CD). I was wondering if anyone has ever had this problem or any ideas.

On a Compaq, that system save partition you seen was a bios set-up.
If you try to put the compaq recovery disk in you get some error like 186??
Can't remember, been a while. Go to msn (or your fav) search engine and type the error and you'll end up at compaq site. You have to punch a code in to get it to recognize the disk again.
