Software / Network problem: HELP!

Hi there,
Really need some help with a weird-as-problem I am having.
I have two pc networked together-one on XP Home and one on XP Media Centre.
I can access some folders and their contents, but not others on both machines. The ones I cant come up with an access denied error. I can access folders, but not the content in some folders. Other folders are fine-all good. So weird.
When I use the network setup on the media centre it says that file sharing is not switched on. When I switch it on it turns off by itself. Have checked every possible setting I can hink of to no avail.
Would appreciate any assistance!!
