Tech Clinic / USB Troubles

I'm having USB problems with XP. All of a sudden it won't let things install. It recognizes that something new is plugged in but when you dirrect it to the software or drivers it won't find them. In particular a Canon printer, an MP3 player, and my cell phone. Any ideas
