Software / DVD Player

If you want to play a DVD movie in a DVD ROM you need to install a DVD player. Some examples are PowerDVD or WinDVD.

No offense, but there is a lot of information out on the web. Try vcdhelp.com. A little bit of research helps sometimes.

Software / Nero 6 vs Easy CD & DVD Creator 6
« on: July 26, 2003, 04:10:27 PM »
It all really depends on what you are doing.

First off, don't use Roxio... it is horrible.

Nero is a good all round burner, but lacks the ability to backup (1:1) copies of games.

To make 1:1 copies of games you need to use Clonecd, Blindwrite or Alcohol 120%.

So, from what you listed, go with nero.

Software / Custom XP cd, almost there

Doing some more reading after, I read something that I had to copy the infs files from the driver folders to $$\INF?

Can anyone confirm this? Also, if I have oemsetup.ini in my NIC folder, I wouldn't copy that to $$\INF would I?

Thanks

Software / Custom XP cd, almost there

I took my copy of winxp and slipstreamed it with sp1a (network installation).

I added the $OEM$ folder to the root and then $1 below that and then my drivers folder.

Here I have four folders: AUDIO, INTELINF, NIC, VIDEO

During the install (with the features of xp in the background page: ie. installing devices), winxp asked me for a couple of files for my nvidia card. I couldn't find them on the cd (two were nvsvc32.exe, keystone.exe). I said cancel and finished the install. Everything else went smoothly. I started up my computer after the install was finished and went into my device manager. I click on my vid card and said "update driver" and pointed to the VIDEO folder on my cd and the update went perfect, no errors.

Next thing... my audio card wasn't installed perfectly either. I had a ? beside it. Again I went update driver, pointed towards my AUDIO folder and the update went perfect. All my devices under "sound, video and game controllers" have no errors now.

Can anyone shed some light into what the problem was during the automated installed

Thanks

Can anyone provide some directions for turning directx 9.0b into a silent install. I have the redistribute package... (will this work or do I need to download a different one?)

Thanks

Software / Winxp Custom Cd Help
« on: April 19, 2003, 02:51:16 PM »
To everyone, I am sorry that I am posting so many new topics.
Please also understand that I am doing my own research, but I am really stuck.

I posted before that I had got a win xp sp1 with drivers and hotfixes ready, but that isn't the case.
I installed XP without any messages and it was already to boot for the first time. At the winxp logo (boot screen) it freezes. I booted into windows with safe mode and i used the cmdinfo.exe tool and gfecheck.exe tool and it said that I didn't have any hotfixes installed. I followed the directions from the topic security rollout package (I think that was the name, just search for security) and used Tech-Hints for help and other sites. I am not sure what I have done wrong, but any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

« on: April 18, 2003, 10:17:08 PM »
I have basically figured out a winXP sp1 w/ drivers and hotfixes slipstreamed, but is it possible to do with a win98se disk?

If so, do I use the same method???

Thanks

Software / Do I Replace Or Not???
« on: April 18, 2003, 01:12:09 PM »
First off, I just want to say how much help I have received from this forum. I am trying to make a WinXP SP1, with drivers and hotfixes update.

The only problem I have right now is on the hotfixes.
I used windows catalouge and downloaded all the hotfixes I need.
I put the hotfixes .exes in svcpack along with their .cat files.

First question: one of the hotfixes had a file empty.cat and then the qxxxxxxx.cat file. I put qxxxxxxx in the svcpack folder, but do I need to put empty.cat into there as well.

Secondly, I have extracted the hotfixes to a temporary directory and removed all of the unnesscary files like symbols etc. I am now taking the binaries and pasting them into my i386 folder, BUT my question is now:

I have two .dlls and one .cab. Neither of the .dlls have version numbers, just creation dates.
Which file do I choose. The one from the i386 folder or the one from the hotfix. The bigger file or the newest file (based on their creation date).

Thanks in advance
