Software / Office Xp Problems

Hi, I am new here. I need some advice from the pros. I have Windows 2000 pro installed on the C:\ drive (2.1gig capacity) and I have Office XP installed on the D:\ drive (20 gig capacity). I had to do this as the bigger drive has problems and can only be used for storage. Anyway, the problem I am having now is that when I start any application in Office it creates an error and the program has to shut down. Does this Office application have to be on the same drive as the OS? if so is there any other way around this? Thanks in advance.
