Software / ghost 2003 win 2k
« on: September 21, 2003, 07:39:36 AM »
if you have the 2003 version of ghost, chances are you also have the ghost32.exe file. this works under the windows environment. use this program instead.

or if you don't have the ghost32.exe file, ask for the upgrade version to your ghost.exe. i'm just not sure if you will be required a fee for the upgrade.

Software / Win2K Install Error: EULA
« on: July 07, 2003, 10:50:42 AM »
i got it!

copy the txtsetup.sif from the /i386 of the installation into the "four-letter" bootdisk. also, copy the file setupldr.bin into the "four-letter" bootdisk. edit txtsetup.sif so that the parameter "SourcePath" points to the correct directory. don't forget the trailing "\" at the end of the directory name.

after this the error will be gone.. tah dah..  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':D\' />

Software / Windows XP Pro File sharing

try using the \"map network drive\" that is available when you right click on the \"my network places\". as for the share, click on the permissions tab. if you are in a domain, make sure that the users exist in the same domain for you to be able to connect. usually it doesn't ask for the account and password since it uses the username of the person currently logged-in.

Tech Clinic / Installing win98 after XP
« on: June 08, 2003, 09:23:35 AM »
i got this to work. but given the following:
the active partition of your first harddrive MUST be FAT32. you could choose to place windows XP in the 2nd partition to get it to NTFS and win98 on the first partition for FAT32.

if you install XP first, after the win98 installation you would have to get to the recovery console of XP so better install it before installing 98.

the reason: after the win98 install the bootsector of your harddisk will not be able to recognize the XP installation and you will always boot to 98 regardless of whether the XP installation exists or not.

the work around: boot into the recovery console and do a \"fixboot C:\" to have the boot sector needed for XP.

after this you now have a dual boot 98-XP.

can anyone give a how-to build the setup files like those available for download so that we can create our own?

its hard to d/l a 32MB file. i'll settle for a 9MB d/l or create my own rather than wait for the slow d/l to finish. besides, it hags my network uplink as i only use dial-up.

many thanks! will appreciate any feedback..

Software / Make your own windows PE
« on: June 01, 2003, 02:04:27 PM »
i have tried to contruct this using the 6n1 by michael au-yeung and it worked fine. also, i've tried it using the msdn distribution cd bt encountered the \"failed to copy setupreg.hiv\" error.

already tried to set the access modifications using the security tab and \"attrib -r -h -s\" on the files copied from the cd. but there seems to be no work around on the original microsoft distribution cd's. has anyone found a way around this?

there seems to be a problem with the directx 9a for win2k. i have tried to install it on a win2k sp3 machine and at the end of the installation it prompted:
     failed to copy .inf file
then installation aborts. kindly check again..or is it a conflict with sp3?
thanks for making this hands-free installs!you're the best!

Software / \"Real\" windows boot CD
« on: May 30, 2003, 10:17:20 PM »
it would help strip windows of the \"FAT\" that goes with it if you use win98lite. it takes out the functionality (ies) of internet explorer and everything that depends on it. from my experience, using 98lite on my pc, i have a smaller registry hive, faster execution of programs and more responsive pc.

just a thought.

Software / Win2K Install Error: EULA
« on: May 27, 2003, 10:39:38 PM »
it already has winnt.sif file in the i386 directory where it contains this line:

[unattended]
...
...
...
OemSkipEula=Yes
...
...

still it contains the error. does a slipstreamed version not contain this error? i would want to push through with the slipstream then try again.
