Hardware / CD ROM drive not responding

i've lost 2 cd drives likewise in a short period. i want to know, whether it is time for me to go for the 3rd one or can i mend these drives some how. i was using these drives on dual OS. in Win ME hardware list this model Afreey CD-2056E is not listed. could this have caused a problem.

yes i do have a CDRW drive(samsung). that works alright. i  i've checked up the device manager. it shows drive working properly. would there be some power supply problem. since it has happend in a short interval with 2 CD drives. would there be a hardware conflict or registry problem. i'm deparate.wanna know, does it open and close if it is dead. pl. help.

yes, i did the same. connected by the IDE cable and changed the jumper settings. thats it now everything is fine. i could recover the data.
but i wonder wether i can use that said drive as an primary HDD after formating. any further guidance, pl.

i was able to play all CDs in Afreey CD-2056E CD ROM drive (in Windows Me OS /AMD Duron 950 Mhz / 128 Mb RAM).
Now CD Rom not responding.
On some CDs it just spins. later, "pl. insert a disk into drive" message appears.
However, while booting the CD Rom is detected. the same problem was there with the previous CD drive too. suggestions pl.

i've installed win 2K by bypassing the cdkey, since i lost  the cd key. later used the key finder 1.41 and found a cd key. would this be the actual cd key or something else. can it be used as the genuine cd key later.

for some reason my HDD crashed. now i'm using a new HDD. can i recover the data from the crashed one using this new one and how.

i've win 2000 cd with unknown cd key. i dont know the nature of the cd. i want to make use of it to clean install against windows Me, i do not have a cd for this. any suggestion.
