Software / multiple sound cards
« on: February 18, 2003, 03:17:17 AM »
That\'s the reason I tried the on board audio too , to see the difference .
I allways get a new sb in the cheapest version , because the card is allways the same and I have an old soundworks speaker system  5.1 . My sound is also connected to my  hi fi system . Good sound is important for me (every body has his own opinion about this) .

I have a sb audigy 2 (pci) and an ac97 on board .I tried to install both and  I had to do a safe boot with the last  good configuration. So I uninstalled the drivers from my ac97 and disabled it in the bios .
I won\'t say you\'re wrong , but for me it didn\'t work , so I don\'t advise it .
As you say what\'s the good of it .

Replace the usbehci .sys by a  good one from a friend or so  . This is the usb 2.0 sys file

I suppose two sound cards  won\'t work, because you cannot play a sound file  with 2 sound cards at the same time , they also use different wdm files.
The only thing you could try is install one , disable it in the device manager ,install the second  , and use  only one or the other ,by disabling  one or the other .who knows

You\'re right , most possible it\'s not the drivers but a pci 128 from creatives seems to be  not one of creatives newest cards but nevertheless even a sound blaster 32  isa still works .
I would change it to another slot  , and try again . The fact that , when he does something else with the pc , he\'s got the interference and bad sound , means a lot  , but there is too few info  to find out more f.e: Is there memory enough , which pci card shares the same irq ,
Perhaps his video card driver  can interfere with soundcard , who knows.

Software / Upgrade with WinXP Full CD
« on: February 08, 2003, 03:04:04 PM »
Even with an upgrade it isn\'t advisable to install winxp over win98se .I would make a clean install , your system will be much more stable .You can always save your msword files and other office files , even your email and wab file .

Create a dos 6.22 boot disk first :
http://www.putergeek.com/downloads/popup_dos.htm
Once you start up, with this floppy disk  which has cdrom support  you can be able to install or start it if your dos game  isn\'t already installed

Could be a lot of things :
How much memory do you have.
Is this an usb soundcard  , or an old pci pc 128 sound card .
Is there an irq sharing with the soundcard .
In order to get good sound  trhere\'s the quality of the card ,the quality of the speakers , can depend on the pci slot  , not enough memory , cabling , conflicts with drivers of other cards , or it\'s own drivers , interference , etc....
If it\'s a new pc you buyed  it  has to be functioning properly  .

You should look better
those are the refresh rates:
Screen Resolutions
1600 x 1200 @ 75Hz
1280 x 1024 @ 85Hz
1024 x 768 @ 117Hz
800 x 600 @ 150Hz
And here is the link to the driver  *.inf file
Down load and extract in a folder called CTX , and update your monitor  .

Software / Win XP won\'t power down
« on: January 18, 2003, 06:57:20 PM »
If you get a screen with \"You can now safely shut dow your computer\" or something like this , you dhould go to the devive manager , view , show hidden devices ,nt Amp/Legacy support,Nt Amp/Legacy interface node , and enable it . If there is a yellow excamation sign , it won\'t work in most cases .
Doesn\'t hurt to try it .

Depends what your monitor can support .You must first mark \"hide the modes that the monitor cannot display\"
in the \"display properties, settings, monitor \" ,that is , if your monitor is installed in the display  properties . Then you can take the highest refresh rate ,although 85 is high enough .
If only a plug and play monitor is installed , install your monitor  first , with  the right *. inf file . Every screen resolution has it\'s own refresh rates from the monitor , the higher the resolution ,the lower the refresh rates .

There could be  something wrong with the installation in the bios . There\'s always the possibility of the doubt
