Software / "Unable to connect to proxy" on Mac OS X
« on: June 23, 2005, 12:13:50 PM »
I'm trying to view the Daily Show videos on Comedy Central's website, and have downloaded and installed Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X, as well as changed all the settings to what the "help" section tells you to. Now at least (after rebooting) the player is shown on its appropriate place, but this is the message I get when clicking on any of the streams: Unable to connect to proxy (as far as I can remember, I won't be on the iMac until tomorrow at least, and this one's too old to view them, dammit).

Any way to get to them? By configuring the proxy? But to what, and where to get that info?

Thanks heaps!

I know this is a stupid question, but please, anything you might have to say is of help.

Thanks

Hardware / Getting a bigger harddrive for an ancient system
« on: May 11, 2005, 12:35:44 PM »
Hi again.

I really need a bigger drive for the same old piece of crap.

The existing drive is apparently this one, and all the comparable ones seem to be even smaller. I'd need about 30 to 40 gigs, but am really unsure which to get. The ones under consideration are this and this (or the bigger one for 15 extra bucks), for now. I have no idea if they'll work without causing problems (the main thing this computer is used for is old games), or if they'll require new hardware or software. How to find out, or can someone set me straight right away?

Thank you!

Heya. I think I need more RAM for this old piece of crap (meaning this).

Tried looking around the 'net, ran some program that was supposed to tell me what exactly I need ("belarc" from the Crucial webshop), but was left clueless. It didn't say what  kind of memory I have or could get (just that slot 'DIMM 1' is empty and slot 'DIMM 2' has 64 MB). Searches by the motherboard (HP Brio BA System Board 1.01-R0B?) came up empty, as well as the documentation that came with the computer.

Extra memory would really help as this old thing keeps crashing and/or going nuts daily because I need to have lots of windows open.
Anohoo, is it a hopeless attempt to find something compatible with ancient junk like this? Especially without Ebay and living in a remote corner of Europe?

Cheers
