Tech Clinic / Abit IC7 Max3 CPU Tmp Prob
« on: September 21, 2004, 03:12:10 PM »
just installed the IC7 Max3 mobo, but the BIOS and Abits EQ utility are showing the CPU temp up to ten degrees C higher than when the same CPU was on my old mobo, a Gigabyte GA-8PE667 Ultra 2,
any one know if this is correct or a fault?
Flashed BIOS, but no change,
any ideas?

Hardware / Raptor and Raid 0
« on: September 12, 2004, 02:29:21 AM »
read an article that tested several raid configs using WD 36gig s-ata Raptors and a single raptor, and the author came to the conclusion that you do not get much more performance increase using a pair of raptors in raid 0, compared to a single raptor, maybe two or three points, because the raptors are already that good, they nearly max out the PCI bandwidth, the performance increase would only come using lesser HDD's which do not perform as well as a raptor? anyone agree?

Hardware / Setting Up Raid 0
« on: December 10, 2003, 04:33:15 AM »
Hi, this newbie, (to raid) would like to set up a raid 0 configuration using two WD1200JB HDD's,
what i would like to know is this-
what do you set both jumpers to?
i have two raid connections, do you connect one HDD to each?
do you have to have single ended IDE cable or will a double do connected to the end connector?
Is IDE HDD's lifespan less on raid 0, even with modern well made HDD's like WD's JB Models?
If the lifespan of IDE HDD's is shorter with  on raid 0,
by how much?
