Tech Clinic / XP too slow on boot-up

Hi everybod,

My pc seems to be running slowly, and XP Pro takes about 60 sec to boot up.

My specs are:

• P4 2.4 GhZ
• 1GB PC2100 DDRAM
• Gigabyte M/B
• 60GB HDD
• 256MB GeForceFX 5600
• WinXP Pro SP1

Is there a bottleneck somewhere in my system? Or could it be caused by complicated drivers, software installed?

I've been through msconfig and the Windows services list, and disabled any unnecessary programs/services, but it still takes too long.

I've defragged and cleaned out temp folders, still no diff. I don't have internet access on it, so no malware or trojans http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Does anybody have an idea as to the cause?

sounds like a trojan to me -- go to www.lavasoftusa.com and grab yourself a copy of Ad-Aware.

could be that the dsl modem is trying to use the same local IP address as the NIC?
