Tech Clinic / Network question
« on: April 20, 2004, 03:28:42 AM »
I have 4 computers in the house. I wired them up to share my DSL. Can I 'network' all of them so I can share files using the same ethernet cards, cables and router that I'm using for the DSL, or do I need to add another card to each computer and more cables and another hub/router/switch?
I think there is a way to do both internet share and file share, am I right?
Can I do this with the existing setup?
Specs:
Westell 2200 DSL modem which has the dsl phoneline. This modem then is connected to Lynksis router. This router has 5 ports. 1 port goes to the main computer, port 2 goes to a location where there is a small hub. This hub takes dsl from the router and sends out 3 cables to 3 different computers.
The DSL is working fine on all computers.

I configured the tcp/ip to automatic on all machines.

Now what's my next step??

Thanx

Tech Clinic / unlocking files
« on: February 23, 2004, 10:48:15 AM »
Well, the program does the boot up defrag. I;m not sure if I checked the option or if it is by default. Everytime at boot, there are a few files that defrag-or it reports that they have been defragged.
I sent a support request to Microsoft asking the techs about my question, we'll see.
BTW,
I have reset all the securities on the properties for each file that is locked and a couple of them unlocked....???
Thanx anyway.

Tech Clinic / unlocking files

I am trying to do a complete defrag of my win 2000 drives. The problem is when the defrag is finished, about 40% of the drive is 'locked files' and can't be defragged.
I'm using O&O pro v.4 as the default utility. I have tried logged in as the administrator, but it still won't touch them. I have browsed the admin tools and really can't find anywhere to unlock these files.
Am I missing something?
Most of the locked files are non-system, a few are.
Anybody got any ideas???
