Hardware / Problems when laptop is turned off and gets cold.

This is too weird and I am looking for opinions to see if anyone has had this laptop problem before.
I recieved a second hand Dell Latitude from a friend as they bought a new laptop and told me this one was acting irregular.
The only thing it is doing is when it is left off and gets cooled down on start up I get the error that the hard drive is not found.
If I bring up the bios screen or let the error screen remain stay up and let the laotop sit for about 10 minutes it gets warmed up the error goes away and WindowsXP boots up perfectly.
I have checked the hard drive seating and it is fine, I have even added extreme miniscule touches of lithium compound to ensure contact to the hard drives connectors.
I have been through the software, check disk , bad sectors, defrag all is fine.
Has ANYONE seen a cold/warm issue like this?
If so, did you solve it by buying a new harddrive or just replacing the laptops hard drive connector?
Thank! Gandara
