Software / xp help please

right first off all great forum and any help is appreciated.
bought myself shiny new hard drive but i only have xp home recovery
disc(from original hdd), mate gave me a copy of xp pro/corporate and all went ok untill i tried to install sp1 and got the dreaded invalid key message, so obviously
am looking for a way to change key for something else and an idiots guide to doing it, have read lots of pages and am well confused so any help would be great.
