Tech Clinic / Do I Have A Hacker??
He asked for a program on how to detect and remove a possibly hacker, most likely an RAT, he did not ask for a lecture on how to create a password,

And in his signature, if u dont know what it means ask him, dont tell everywon, pm him and ask him, and it's also a transaction for the online game "runescape"

As for you'r problem toxic, i recommend running full system scans with you'r anti-virus, anti-spyware, also, please post a hijackthis log, it will make the problem easyer to solve,

Thanks,

Ryan.
I still believe it's FAR less likely to be a RAT and far MORE likely to be bad passwords used in multiple places.  Generally well protected systems only have RATS installed when the owner WANTS them installed.
Hi guys, To Cut a long story short yesterday i tryed to log onto my runescape account , but i could because the password was changed, i recovered the account and 12M gp was missing also my msn adress has been stolen , Any programs out there that can stop this?

Cheers Guys
Yes - it's a program called "Use Strong Passwords Which You Don't Tell Anyone".

The following are all examples of WEAK passwords which are less use than ashtrays on motorcycles:

john566, password, computer, hogwarts, and hh&7Gt$u (but I told it to my little sister)

The following are all examples of STRONG passwords which will prevent any possibility of hackers grabbing your stuff (strongest last) :

j0Hn$66, pA5$w0rD, c0mPu+3r, hh&7Gt$u (and I told noone), Od8Bnp2h/., h4$h=t7iSutW4t!*

If you use a password like that last one, and use a DIFFERENT PASSWORD FOR EACH PLACE, then you will lose nothing.  Never.  Noone will bother with you because the passwords EVERYONE uses don't work.  Trust me, as a system admin I know what passwords people use (and write down), and it ain't pretty.  Don't try to tell me that you used different passwords for RuneScape and MSN, you didn't.  And don't try to tell me they were great passwords that noone would ever guess, because they weren't.  You weren't hacked, you were CRACKED, and it's your fault.

Tech Clinic / Unable to install anything which uses MSI files

OK I solved it thanks to petri.co.il http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

It was a space in the pathname - never been a problem before but apparently it is now.  LOL

Thanks for thinking this over chaps... http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
Automatic updates are turned on and it's fully up to date (along with AVG AV and Zone Alarm).

I am an MCSE with 20 years experience in Computing although it has to be said most of it is with Server OS's - I am most definitely the Administrator of my computer.  It doesn't say "Access Denied" or "See your Administrator" - it says it can't read the MSI file - but this happens with ANY MSI file from any source.
OK, I've just re-installed Windows Installer 3.1 (V2) (MSI.DLL 4000.2435) and it still doesn't work... any ideas?

Thanks for your thoughts so far http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />
Hi there,

Windows installer functiality disability is a very common problem, it can occur if you have live update turned off, my recommendation is that you search in google, Windows installer, DO NOT GO TO ANY OTHER SITE APART FROM MICROSOFT, and download the newest installer for windows, hopefully it should work fine, as for you'r other problem..i done some quick research and was unable to find anything "sufficiant" the only thing i can think of is that, you'r not the administrator on you'r computer..

Maybe questolo can help you more in this.
OK, two separate problems I think:

1.  I have a new service called "User Privilege Service" with no description which seems to have appeared from nowhere.  It's in Manual mode and is not started.  Its EXE is svchost.exe -k netsvcs.  Of course.  Sigh.

2.  I cannot install anything which uses MSI files; it fails stating that it cannot read the MSI file.  Which is cack.  Because it can.

I have done a scan with the SmitFraudFixer and it's clear.  I have done a scan with AVG anti-malware (EWIDO) and apart from a couple of nasties which weren't being executed, it's clear.  I have AVG Anti-Virus (Soho Edition) (bought and paid for) and it's clear.

Can anyone think of a reason, or places to look, for why I can't use the Windows Installer?  Can anyone throw any light on the "User Privilege Service", like what it is, where it comes from, what it does? http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/ph34r.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Thanks
