Tech Clinic / Can anybody help?

It's in the registry. I don't know where, though. You could search the registry for the filename.

It sounds like it's out of alignment.

They're so cheap these days, I'd just replace it (rather than trying to align it).

Tech Clinic / Random BSOD's

It might just be a problem of basic maintenance.  Here's a checklist:

-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp)

-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files)

-- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK

-- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Disk Cleanup

-- Download AdAware, check for updates, run it and remove whatever it finds

-- Periodically empty the browser cache and the java plug-in cache

-- Download Diskeeper and defrag

-- Download, update and turn on SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (or your spyware removal tool of choice).

If that doesn't do it, then probably you'll have to start checking various components (besides what you've already checked).

Tech Clinic / disk defrag problem + hijack log

What's probably happening is the built-in defragger is running into open apps. Download Diskeeper.  It doesn't quit or restart when it bumps into open apps.

You keep finding so much stuff on your computer after repeated scannings -- do you have some firewall software in place?

Tech Clinic / Computer slows down
« on: March 08, 2005, 05:52:41 PM »
My standard minimal maintenance checklist for keeping systems stable and running fast:

-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp)

-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*, or on XP C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files)

-- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK

-- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Disk Cleanup

-- Download AdAware, check for updates, run it and remove whatever it finds

-- Download Diskeeper and defrag

-- Download, update and turn on SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (or your spyware removal tool of choice).

If it only slows down after you run emule, then maybe emule is a memory leaker. How much memory do you have?

I'd just get AdAware, update it, run it and remove what it finds.

Or get the new Microsoft spyware removal tool. I've heard from several people that it's quite good.

Here's my little "speed up your pc" checklist of basic maintenance actions (additional to what's been recommended):

-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp)

-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*)

-- Download, update and turn on SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard.

Search your computer for the file (dccckpeb.exe). Right-click on it and view the Properties. Maybe it will tell you what application it belongs to (if it does).

What a hoot! That was may, this is August ... still at the same job?  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />

Definitely get AdAware.
