Hardware / Television airwaves help

I don't know if this is the right forum or right place to ask. But I'm trying to boost a television signal so I can watch it. I live in San Diego and am trying to get channel 9 out of L.A. I'm trying to get the Laker road games. So I'm wondering if there is anyway to do that. It's not that far of a distance and if anybody knows of some type of power antena or something and how they work that would be very appreciated.
