Hardware / New Guy/Ram Question
« on: August 20, 2004, 04:16:17 PM »
As far as i know you need to stick with the same type of memory, 2100 for example and can't mix DDR SDRAM with DDR DRAM. Personally would get another stick of 512 2100 DDR SDRAM from same manufacturer as the one you currently own. Idon't think you will see much difference between the 2100 and the 2700 as opposed to the cost factor. Doesn't 512 and 512 = 1024?

Hardware / my computer is crashing all the time
« on: August 20, 2004, 04:05:39 PM »
Try resetting the BIOS jumpers. Make sure you power down the system and unplug the power cords and pull the power supply connector first. Only have to wait about 5 seconds before you reset BIOS jumpers. Hope this helps.

Hardware / help me!

Idon't think you need a 256MB card but it's your call. I think 128MB is enough and would go with ATI personally.

Try to uninstall the drives themselves or uninstalling the drivers associated with them then reboot and reinstall then reboot again and see if they are recognized and operating properly. Hope it helps.    http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':)\' />

Make sure DHCP is enabled and TCP/IP are checked and obtain IP address and DCP are checked through propreties of internet connections or through properties from local area connection icon in task bar if you have it there.

Tech Clinic / drivers.cab
« on: August 19, 2004, 07:34:18 PM »
as far as i know the only thing you will lose is the application that is associated with the driver for that program. Just make sure that it is the proper driver for that program, maybe open up windows explorer find the program associated with smsc.exe double-click it and see what is listed, you may see the specific driver name and know what exactly what you are going to delete.

Tech Clinic / Corrupted HD
« on: August 19, 2004, 07:18:42 PM »
http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> Somebody has to know of a way to access a corrupted HD. Have tons of music & videos that i need to get to. 2nd HD on system that shows RAW file system when accessed through my computer, drive, properties. When accessed through device manager properties and populate shows MBR. Don't know what happened; orginally master (200G), XP Home OS with slave being 60G, XP Home OS. Wound up putting in Maxtor ATA133 card with it & everything was fine. Then bought new computer with 160G HD AS master making 200G slave, but can't open up HD. Tryed re-installing XP Home but would have to re-format HD & won't do this for i would lose all files. Tryed recovery console through XP CD & received messages of the like that can't find control key or unrecoverable errors. Someone out there is smart enough to know how to resolve this dilema & i would sure appreciate there help.  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/huh.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' />
