Tech Clinic / to many suspcious processes running help!

Hello good people.....i'll get right to it here is my running procesC:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe

C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe
c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsrte.exe

All those svchost.exe makes me nervous. The ie explore one the bottom will not terminate and there are a couple of other ie that will not terminate, now from what i read on various sites is that there should be only a couple of svchost.exe and one explore. can some body tell me what these are and how to get rid of them?
