Hardware / overclocking p3
« on: March 21, 2002, 01:59:20 PM »
hi, i\'m not sure how soft fsb work.., but it seems to be the only to oc my p3-550 system. i couldn\'t change the setting in bios as they probably locked it, and i guess the only way is by using soft fsb.
does anyone know how to use it with p3?
thx

Overclocking / How do u clock?
« on: March 04, 2002, 04:34:11 PM »
mm...as far as i know, you can oc your graphics by using some software. (never did it though...\'cause gf2 64 DDR is enough for me).
but generally, when you oc your cpu, you can increase the FSB , the multiplier, or even both.
and you can do that either from the cmos setup(BIOS) or directly from the jumpers on the mobo.
but yeah..you need a good cooling for that since amd is extremely hot, and i wouldn\'t recommend you to do that without a good cooling. i\'ve been trying to make my own water-cooled system but the plan has be halted for a while now.

Hardware / installing debian linux
« on: February 11, 2002, 05:05:23 PM »
tried that, didn\'t help too much though.
well, the problem is that i\'ve downloaded a couple ISOs for cd-1 which is the main cd for debian from different sites. but then when i burned it , it gives me the second cd. never gave me the first cd. dunno why.. i\'ve tried the md5sum also, but always give me the wrong one. can anyone just tell me where i can download the proper ISOs for debian? i\'ve tried with www.debian.org, but that \'s where the problem i got from.
any other ideas?

hi guys,
does any of you know how to burn debian image iso file into cds? i\'ve downloaded all the 3 binary iso files and should be burn into 3 cds i believe \'cause each has approx 600 mb.
Also, after that, how do you install debian? i\'ve done it once with red hat, but i heard debian is way harder to do. (i just want to try and learn it anyway...=) )
thanks

Hardware / install cd-r drive
« on: February 13, 2002, 04:13:09 AM »
actually, one way to solve my problem was simply to discharge the cmos jumper, and disconnect the battery for a while, and run fail-save default in cmos setup.
that should do it.
enjoy

Hardware / install cd-r drive
« on: February 03, 2002, 04:33:04 AM »
hi, well i actually figured it out the problem before, but here\'s a weird one:
the bios will read the new drive but when you go to windows , the new drives(i.e.cd-r drive)  won\'t show up in \"my computer\". in order to show it up, you need to click on \"add new hardware\"--> it\'ll just search and it says it\'s already found , and the fact that IT HAS always been in the system , it just won\'t show up.(only shows the other cd rom drive.
after you click \"ok\", you will then see the two symbol for the 2 drives.
but it\'s very annoying to always do this all the time and there\'s something wrong for sure...just don\'t know what.
ps: btw, for solving the problem with cmos thing, i just re-setup the date, year, clock and month. that\'s it.

any suggestions?
thanks

Hardware / install cd-r drive
« on: February 02, 2002, 09:47:50 PM »
hi there,
i currently have a dvd rom and i just added a new cd-r drive.
i just connected the cable from motherboard and the power supply just like i did with the dvd-rom.
but then when i go to windows, it only reads one of them. how to add the other one?
if i disconnect one of them and plug in to the other one, it works. but it can\'t display both of them at the same time..
any help out there...??
thanks

yeah..i guess you would run the command \"oobe/msoobe /a \"
and it\'ll tell you whether you\'ve activated the key or not..
good luck

Software / screen cut
« on: January 20, 2002, 04:04:48 PM »
hi guys,
i \'ve got this little problem...
well, i\'ve got a system with p3 550, 256 RAM, TNT2 32mb graphics and a built in sound card,(well, i believe the graphics card is also built in the mobo).
then i was running this game emulator called project64 to emulate N64 games. well, the game runs fine except that it\'s running at a little bit slower rate...which cause the movements to be cut and the sounds were all cut...
is there anyway this was caused by the lack of memory?
\'cause it was running excellent at another system with 1.4 amd, 512 DDR, 64 mb DDR graphics.
thanks

Hardware / choosing case
« on: January 17, 2002, 04:30:32 PM »
Hi there,
how do you determine which case (with certain voltage) you should get if you\'re thinking to get a cpu with 800 Mhz, 900 Mhz, 1.0 Ghz, etc.
\'cause i have 1.4 amd with 300 v casing, but then i\'m thinking to  build another system with cpu speed ranging from 800 Mhz - 1.2 Ghz. is there any general idea of how to find the right voltage for the case?
thanks

Overclocking / water cooling system
« on: December 16, 2001, 02:10:16 AM »
radiator coolant?? is that some sort of liquid?..
and i\'m not sure about \"red gunk additive\"...is that what they use as \"red liquid\" to see if there\'s any leaking occur?

what is mobo?
well, i got a sk6 copper heat sink, and 4,500 rpm fan.
maybe the fan is not good enough. do u know where to get the noice control silverado cooling?
heard that one is good.

Overclocking / water cooling system
« on: December 12, 2001, 12:52:16 AM »
hi, i saw the water-cooling section in Tom\'s hardware site.
well, the pics are in some what complicated. so basically, you have a host going out from the water-block(which is attached on the cpu) to the radiator. then there\'s a new hose from the radiator to the water-pump. then from the water-pump you have a host back to the water-block. is that the way to go?
i mean, for outgoing and ingoing direction, i can probably check with the manual later(as mentioned by roadkill), but is that the way you connect them together?

Hardware / voltage increase
« on: December 11, 2001, 01:06:08 AM »
well, i have athlon 1.4@ 133........and my windows just would be unstable eventhough i increased...to 1.80-1.85 from 1.75
just suddenly shut down..when i try to access some program, etc. the only time the screen went blue (for me) was when the first time i set the fsb at ~147 (i believe) without increasing voltage or anything else(first experience)...and luckily didn\'t get burned. then i had to reset the cmos and everything went back to normal.
my cpu fan right now is running @4500 rpm.with sk6 coppen heat sink.
any recommendation of a good cpu fan? i saw someone put a (quite big size) of fan on the heat sink. well, the shape is sort of like eclipse..hehe....don\'t really know about this..
but that might be a good one.

Hardware / Cacheable
« on: December 09, 2001, 02:26:28 PM »
btw, can anyone explain a little bit about system bios cacheable and video ram cacheable? I just heard that this will use the L2 brigde that will increase the performance.
but no idea if it\'s true or not? or how those things work?
thanks
