Hardware / CPU problems
« on: September 01, 2007, 11:09:55 PM »
Hey there, I just joined the forum and I have a feeling I'll be back for much more.

I just got a laptop from my girlfriend which needed a lot of work and I finally have it up and running, clean as a whistle, with XP loaded and everything is working fine.

However, when I go into System Properties (right clicked on My Computer and chose properties) it's telling me the CPU is running at 798 MHz, and CPU-Z confirmed this. The BIOS, however, reports the processor as being 1.6 GHz. I found the drivers for my CPU (Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M 3000+) which came with the laptop (Compaq Presario R3310CA) but it didn't change it.

The setup screen shows the speed, but there are no options to change the clock speed or multipliers. I was considering flashing the BIOS to see if I can get a screen like that, but I'm unsure if there are flashes available.

 Any ideas/comments?

 Thanks a ton

Hardware / XP internet woes
« on: September 01, 2007, 11:04:55 PM »
hey, thanks for the replies guys.

I don't know what I did, I was frigging around with the settings and now it seems to be working fine, I can transition from wireless to wired connections easily.  At least when I plug into a router, I haven't tried my internet at home because we're moving, but I did plug into my friend's router which has cable internet and it worked without setup, the same day I was connecting to wireless.

Thanks for the tips though guys!

Hardware / XP internet woes
« on: August 24, 2007, 12:38:59 AM »
I've got a Compaq Presasio R3310CA laptop that has both an ethernet (Realtek RTL8139 Fast Ethernet NIC) and a Wi-Fi (Broadcom 54g MaxPerformance 802.11g) network adapters. Before I brought it home from my girlfriend's place for the first time, I used the wi-fi card to connect to her unsecured wireless network. The internet worked fine - this was before I reinstalled XP, and updated to SP2. I did re-install all the drivers for all the built-in hardware, and I know they're both working fine. I took it home, and set it up for my broadband (Bell) connection with the ethernet card. I can connect to the internet fine and use both Mozilla and IE for internet surfing, and MSN all fine. But when I go back to her place, I can connect to the network but Mozilla IE and MSN do not work. Even after deleting my sympatico connection and playing around with settings, still nothing.

Any ideas or suggestions on my next steps?
Thanks a ton
