Software / MS Outlook 2002 query

Dear Sir,
Hi... I gotta a query related to MS Outlook 2002.
I am using MS Office XP (ver.2002) and in MS Outlook the file created for the Inbox, Outbox, sent items etc.. is outlook.pst which is stored under individual profile in W2K Prof.. The size limitation for the .pst file is around 2 GB.
Let’s assume at present the total size of .pst is 1.50 GB and if we archive the mails from MS Outlook and store it as archive.pst. Now even after archiving and moving the mails from outlook.pst to archive.pst there won’t be any change in the size of outlook.pst. it would still show me the size as 1.50 GB or a little less. Why so???
