128MB RAM with WindowsXP is pushing its limits to begin with.

You are basically sounding like you are just running out of resources.


Also check your codecs. If its a Divx Avi, reinstall Divx, Xvid, etc..

Thats really about your best option is to get a tech shop to test the RAM.

The devices that test RAM aren't cheap and definitely not worth buying just to test one stick of RAM.


Check CompUSA or another big shop. Talk with one of the guys, they might be nice enough to test it quickly for you at no charge.

Hardware / Can't remove bad sector record ???

What operating system do you have?

if you have windows2000/XP run chkdsk /R from a cmd prompt. It will force repair of a bad sector and recover anything it can from it.

You can do this after cloning your HDD and it will remove the bad sector flag unless that sector is bad as well.

Get a stick of 256MB PC100 RAM and no more if you are planning on keeping that system.

Its beyond showing its age but can still be worked with.

Run the screwdriver over all of the plugs, some motherboards are mislabled.  It should be 2 pins side by side.

Site Feedback / Chat nogo from Work

Still very weird JT.  I have an IRC chat setup on my page, http://www.jandar-lg.net/chat.html works fine from work, the Chat on TheTechGuide is a no go.  The only difference is that the chat from my site is port 7000 and a different server, but both still IRC, although mine connect chat.planetz.net:8000 first.

Works fine from home, (when I have time at least)

Email me the ports you have open, I\'ll try to see which, if any would work from work.

Hmm... try deleting or emptying out your Temp folder.

Looks like its unable to write a ef7194.tmp file.

Fine...... I use Linux, work with Win2K Pro all day, but am mostly on Unix servers.

My Linux Router at home doubles as my Web Server, I run Mandrake 8.1 on another machine at home.  

Linux, there said it again.

Really though, the main thing seems to be that most of the visitors/users of this site use MS products.

Why not just use Norton\'s Ghost?  INstall Win2K, all updatdes, then drivers and such.  Then make an bootable image CD.  Use that anytime you need to restore.
