Tech Clinic / Internet problems

Our internet will not hold a connection for any longer than 30 mins. It's a Telewest broadband connection running through a scientific atlanta modem. At most, I run BitComet (with 2/3 downloads at a time) msn messenger and the odd internet page on sports sites. Downloads average at 100kb/s and it doesn't usually affect the CPU perfomance.
At present, I disconnect the PSU from the modem for 5 seconds and then reconnect it. This lasts for approx. 30 minutes before I have to do it again. Is there anything else than I can do to prevent the connection loss?
