I also tried using method 2 to fix IE on that link you gave me, and it works up until the point that it needs to copy a file named "iedw.exe." The dialogue says it needs the XP SP2 CD? Do they mean I have to use my XP CD, or do I need to find the appropriate file on my comp?

No luck... http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':(\' />
I was thinking of the possible reasons why these programs aren't running, and I have a hunch. So I messed up a bitmap file, and this SOMEHOW screwed up the Local Settings directory. I don't know much about the clockwork of the actual system, but my guess would be that the appearance of the actual programs that use bitmaps and such somehow relies on the Local Settings folder. If I were to take a guess, my guess would be that this problem relates to the actual images of the programs.
I haven't tried reinstalling the programs, but I'm not sure I want to resort to that for all of them.
I'm really grateful for your effort, I really appreciate.

Lately, my computer has been awry with strange errors. The first one I noticed was that iTunes was having trouble burning discs... But I think I really screwed it up when I was tweaking AIM with reshacker. I guess what happened is I made a new bitmap resource to replace the buddy list background that AIM didn't like, so it went berserk. I loaded my previous version of aimres.dll, and now AIM works fine, but now a bunch of my other programs are messed up. Luckily my Firefox browser is still working...

Programs I've discovered that aren't working:
Microsoft Encarta Reference Library 2003
Internet Explorer
Norton Antivirus

The windows that pop up for these three programs are all similar, I'll use Internet Explorer as the example:
WINDOW 1: "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the midle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
For more information about this error, click here.
WINDOW 2: Error Signature
EventType: BEX P1: iexplore.exe P2: 6.0.2900.2180 P3: 41107b81 P4: shdocvw.dll P5: 6.0.2900.2627 P6: 422fff1a P7: 00030fd7 P8: c0000409 P9: 00000000
To view technical information about the error report, click here.
WINDOW 3: The following files will be included in this error report: C:\DOCUME~1\DANMIL~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1b18.dir00\iexplore.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\DANMIL~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1b18.dir00\appcompat.txt

NOTE: The WINDOW 3 info for each erroneous program ALL have the same sort of errors; 2 errors, both based in the Temp folder in Local Settings, they all have a "appcompat.txt" error, and each program has its respective messed up ".exe" file. The only major differences are the suffixes in the "WER????" part of the file.

The other error that worries me is when I open the Add/Remove Programs dialogue, there is a HUGE selectable thing in between ATI Display Driver and CCleaner. I looked in C:\Program Files and in between these two programs is my AutoCAD 2002 program. I have no idea why it is having such a weird glitch.

My guess is that you'll want a hijackthis log from me, so I'll work on getting a fresh one now.
Your help is much appreciated.
