Tech Clinic / ALFA AWUS036h wireless adapter extremely slow!
« on: March 21, 2012, 05:20:49 PM »
It's a Linksys wireless N home router broadcasting in N, and my adapters wireless mode is set to IEEE 802.11b/g.

Keeping the wireless network connection status up, I've noticed that the speed jumps from 11.0 mbps to 54.0 mbps or any number in between.

Tech Clinic / ALFA AWUS036h wireless adapter extremely slow!
« on: March 21, 2012, 01:33:05 PM »
I am using a desktop computer.  I have tried using the drivers on the cd, and have tried using drivers I've found on the internet..and I have also tried using the vista drivers on the cd for it which I read worked, but it hasn't for me.  My connection speed says its at 11.0 Mbps.  But when I try to download anything I struggle to get 30 kbps.  It's really weird because some times It works really well...but then goes bad in seconds.  I have not seen that link before, but don't see anything new on that site that would help.

Sometimes when I start speed tests at first the speed looks like its going to be decent..like around 3.5mbps..but then before it even gets halfway done the test almost slows to a stop..going really really slow.  Not sure why though.

Also thought I should mention that the router is a wireless N router.

Hello, I just got a new AWUS036h wireless adapter of off amazon.com and have been having trouble with the download speed for it.  I have read that many people have had this problem and I cannot seem to find a fix for it.  I have Windows 7 ultimate 64bit, and I think the problem is the driver compatibility with my OS..but like I said I can't find a fix..  Can you help me find out if this is the problem, and a fix for it?  Thanks!

Tech Clinic / hard drive wont show up in bios/windows
« on: January 17, 2012, 05:19:23 PM »
Yesterday I got a copy of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, to replace my windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.  Before doing this I copied all the important information from my main drive to my second hdd.  After doing this I started installing the new OS.  After everything finished, my second hdd stopped working with my pc completely.  It will not show up in bios. It will not show up under disk management. I have no idea how to fix this, or even if it's fixable.

The second hdd is a laptop hdd from hitachi. model: HTS543216L9A300

The hdd had worked fine for over a month with no problems at all, until I installed the 64 bit OS.

Please help me if you can.

Tech Clinic / Graphics card problem
« on: December 09, 2010, 08:19:19 AM »
i got my friend to give me his old xfx radeon hd 4650 pci-e graphics card, to replace my onboard graphics. There was nothing wrong with the card, he just upgraded to a newer one. My problem is, that after using the card for awhile my monitor would turn off, and the fan on the card would start running full blast. The only way i could stop this is to restart my computer. This happened more and more often until i took the card out of my computer completely. I know its not the monitor because it works on my onboard card perfectly. I tried getting help from the xfx website, but nothing they suggested worked. (they said to go to http://xfxsupport.info/downloads/documentation/ATI-Driver-installation-Troubleshooting.pdf, and if it still didn't work, to return the card.) I also noticed that my computer seems to run a bit slower with the graphics card in..which is odd considering it has its own dedicated memory, instead of using my system memory. I have windows 7 ultimate, fully updated, and i had the latest drivers from their website for the card. Not sure if anyone here can help considering the people at the company that made it couldn't help, but thought I'd give it a try anyway. Thanks

Oh and i have a 430 watt psu in case that matters.

I ran the TFC program, and it did restart my pc, but im not exactly sure what it did.  After my pc finished restarting the internet security virus popped back up,and it wont let me install malwarebyte's anti malware. When i double click the installer, and then click run, nothing happens.  I do already have malwarebyte's antimalware on my pc, but it wont open. Would that have anything to do with why the installer wont run? Do i have to completely uninstall the other malwarebyte's first?

he tried a few more times, and still nothing. are there any other ways of restoring his pc?

His pc has been manually restored once, so dell said that he will no longer be able to do a pc restore, or restore to factory settings.

he did set the cd first on the boot menu, but it still didnt work.
He tried using ctrl and f11. it did nothing.  I had him try it two more times in case he wasn't pressing it in time, but still nothing.

He is willing to delete everything on the computer to get it working again. he has everything valuable stored on a flash drive.
