Hardware / upgrade or New PC
« on: December 20, 2005, 11:39:49 PM »
Wow...I'm certainly not reading all that...you coulda just posted something like:

-Pentium 3 600MHz
-256mb RAM
-Nvidia TNT graphics

I am going to assume that you have the newer socket 370 p3 system. The best you can get on that board is a 1.1GHz Pentium 3...which is terrible. yes, they made p3s up to 1.4Ghz...but they used the Tualatin core...which needs a special motherboard.

So either get a 1.1Ghz Coppermine, or buy a new system.

I would definately recommend a new system.

Overclocking / Over Clocking GeForce FX 5500 OC 256 PCI
« on: December 18, 2005, 08:14:20 PM »
Yes, BFG has already clocked it higher

and really, there is no point in OC'ing that card imo...it's just too crappy. You're way too limited with the PCI bus to get any real performance gain.

Hardware / Hard Disk on last legs

Best thing is to find out what company makes the hard drive. Because every company has their own HD diagnostic tool.

Hardware / Trouble with 320 Gig drive
« on: December 01, 2005, 06:42:47 PM »
There's nothing wrong with that drive. My 160gb HD had 150gb of (useable) space.

The reason being that 1mb is actually 1024 kb (kilobytes).

So the manufacturers play on this and add it all up so teh drive seems bigger. Gets more noticeable as the size gets larger.

Overclocking / Overclocking Problem (BIOS)
« on: November 17, 2005, 08:03:26 PM »
yep, that's what you get with an Emachine, unfortunately. You probably won't be able to OC unless you get a new motherboard.

Overclocking / Overclocking AMD Sempron 2400+ 1.67 GHz
« on: November 17, 2005, 07:56:51 PM »
no offense intended and yes if thats a socket 939 board you should be able to use the bios to overclock the cpu and furthermore that cpu kinda sucks again no offense. Esspeically next to my AMD ATHLON 64 3400+ Overclocked to 3GHZ which is much better than some jerkoff P4 POS as it doesnt have the bus speed of the AMD series processers. Anyway yeah im sorry I gotta brag since I just built the computer and im extremly pleased with it Ill never go back to Intel Crap again.
you obviously have little to no knowledge in such things. The AMD sempron is confined to the socket A and socket 754. Further, your post doesnt help this person at all. We don't wanna hear about your e-penis any more. Nobody cares if you have an Athlon 64.
Hi there,
actually it's impossible to create Partition, Formatting and Multi operating systems utilities bootable disk in Windows without 3d software
wrong, wrong, and wrong.

A widows XP disc lets you do all three.

Hardware / Celeron CPU's
« on: November 17, 2005, 07:50:35 PM »
not 1gb of L2 cache, maybe 1mb. Every computer microprocessor uses L2 cache. yes, even the Pentium MMX had l2 cache. Whoever told you celerons don't have l2 cache has no idea what they're talking about.

And no, the AMD Sempron is both cheaper and performs better than any celeron.

Hardware / SATA.. need help with installing XP!
« on: November 11, 2005, 10:47:37 PM »
You'll need to install the SATA drivers. Go to the manufacturer's site and get them.

Hardware / Bought SATA HD but have PATA...
« on: November 10, 2005, 06:38:53 PM »
Yes, any mobo that supports SATA, will also support PATA (or IDE), and most new boards have SATA. Just look for it in the motherboard description.

I can recommend a mobo...I just need to know what socket your processor is, and what memory type you have (DDR, SDRAM...)

Hardware / external hard drive: specs
« on: November 10, 2005, 06:36:52 PM »
I don't find iot suprising that manufacturers don't include that info. Anybody who can assembles their own.

And for backup, what do you need to backup? Cause your best bet would probably be Symantec Ghost (retails at like..$80 USD). It basicly copies everything the way it is (OS and all), to another hard drive.

Do you need it to be external? Cause I would just put an internal one in and backup with Ghost...so you don't even have to reinstall the OS. That's what I would do. I believe ghost will work on an external HD, but an internal would be faster.

again, im not sure what exactly you need to do. cause even Windows XP has a built-in backup utility.

Hardware / external hard drive: specs
« on: November 10, 2005, 08:14:59 AM »
I suppose...

...But why not get a laptop hard drive and a 2.5" enclosure? They're tiny compared to the regular drives, and have great shock absorbtion. Then buy some backup software as needed.

I'm just trying to save you a buck...cause the manufacturer will most likely not post the info you're looking for.

Dude, if you know that much about hard drives, you should REALLY just buy a drive for dirt cheap and get a 20 dollar enclosure...

Hardware / Gigabyte Graphics Card.
« on: November 09, 2005, 07:57:53 AM »
Yes it will. I have personally played Warcraft3: FT on a system with a sempron 3000+, 512mb RAM, and a Radeon 9600pro.

It ran the game on medium-high or even high settings. The performance in other games was great too. Farcry, UT2004, and CS: S all ran on about medium settings. No lag.
