Go to Asus website and find your model. Check for any new bios updates. If there are any, download and install them. That should sort your fix.

Try re-installing Windows, it could be a software error.

It should be fine. If your installing it on your laptop try to look for a Product Key sticker underneath it. As Windows XP has many different versions, getting the right version to match your product key is not an easy task. On the otherhand if you can bypass the product key option, once the installation is done. Download a tool called Key Update by Microsoft and that should allow you to reactivate your orginal windows key.

Hardware / Remote Desktop Connection

Instead of using Remote Desktop, use Remote Assistance. If all fails because its too complicated, try out logmein.com the free version. It's the easiest way to connect to your computer remotley.
