Software / Difficulty with RAIDing!
« on: September 08, 2005, 04:30:22 PM »
After reading a few posts on this excellent site, I have managed to get so far with raiding my PC.
I have, in my system, two identical ST380011A Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200RPM ATA100 hard disk drives. Having recently acquired this second drive, I have been using it on my Gigabyte GA-7DXR's Primary IDE Channel. But, wanting to unlock the maximum potential out of my system, I want to RAID them.
I have set them up on the same cable, slave and master, on the first IDE connector of the built in RAID chip. They were detected and set to RAID-0 (Striping). I downloaded the drivers from the Promise site for the Fasttrak100-Lite chip, put them on a floppy, inserted the XP disk and started my computer.
Pressing F6 when prompted, I waited for the screen to appear, pressed S and chose "WinXP Promise FastTrak100 (tm) Lite Controller". XP read the drivers from the disk, I pressed Enter and proceeded.
The problem is when setup asks the user to press Enter to continue setup (This Screen), upon pressing Enter, I am presented with a screen telling me XP setup has detected no hard drives! This makes no logical sense to me, as I have the drivers for my RAID loaded! Am I missing a very simple step or something, like telling setup that I have a RAID and not a standard hard drive?
Please help soon, as I am itching to see the advantages of RAIDing!
