Tech Clinic / URGENT PC HELP NEEDED
« on: February 10, 2006, 01:28:03 AM »
Try to recover your files with "knopix" it is a linux based operating system ran from a CD. That should help with the urgent colleged work. Now that would help assuming that there is no hardware problem. If there is a hardware problem I would lean my guess toward the motherboard or the processor being burned out.

Maybe you messed up the windows registry with a program that you installed or perhaps you manually messed it up.

I belive that if you hold "F8" you will have the choice of choosing "restore the last settings that worked" and that might help.

You can try to install another hard drive; format it and stick windows in. If the computer works fine after doing so you can try to install the hard drive with the files back in. If knopix does not help but the hard drive worked in the computer just fin then you might have just lost your files due to harddrive failure. Try to restore your files. If that does not work try to format your computer. Just boot from the cd by going into the bios and changing the boot order.

I hope you get this problem fixed soon.

Dvd Decrypter is free and you can get it here:
http://www.soft32.com/download_75586.html

As for dvd Shrink it is not free. I have found that CloneDVD is great but not free. However if you looked hard enough I am sure that you will bump in to them sooner or later.

Using Unlocker
--------------

How often have you tried to delete or rename a file or folder and got
"Cannot delete xxx: It is being used by another person or program." ?

Unlocker is a tool which will help you removing this scandaleous Windows
bug.

Simply right click the file or folder and select Unlocker. If the file
or folder is locked then a window will appear with a list of processes
locking the file or folder. Select the locks and click Unlock and you
are done.

It is recommended to Unlock wisely and to close open processes locking
files or folder if any, but if only Explorer.exe is the culprit, do not
hesitate ! biggrin.gif

Software / Head Set
« on: October 06, 2005, 12:01:27 PM »
Does anyone know how to use their computer as a phone? I use DSL, so my phone line is connected to my modem.

I successfully dialed out when I connected the phone line directly to my pc, but the receivers of the call were not able to hear me. My head set works. I have tried it out in this pc and it works; just not for phone calls so far. I believe it to be a setting that is wrong. If anyone knows how to fix this problem please let me know.

Thanks for reading,

Software / This Is A tough One-License Key Removal
« on: October 06, 2005, 06:37:06 AM »
1. How do you identify the files that have not been deleted after uninstall?
Go to c:\Program Files\ and check for anything that is relevant to the program that you deleted.

Keep in mind that the installation most likely wrote things into your registry and therefore it would be wise to post your Hijack log. Notice that I edited my previous post.

2. How do you know which files you need to unlock?
Run a scan on your computer with one of these anti spy ware programs:
1. Microsoft Anti spy ware Beta
2. Pest Patrol
3. Lava soft Ad Aware

One of them will find the spy ware problem and it will ask: What do you want to do and you simply click remove. Now if it does not remove it, these anti spy ware programs will at least tell you where the files that it can not delete are located and that is when you will have to use the unlocker program so that you can delete them manually yourself.

3. Do you delete the files after unlocking them?
Yes

4. What if uninstall does not work at all?
Register and Post your Hijack Log Read my previous post.

Ps. Don't Forget to download Service Pack 2

Make sure that Pc Guard is closed. Alt + Control + Delete and make sure it is not running.  Make sure it is not in the taskbar next to the time.

The just go into the control panel and uninstall in the Add and Remove Programs.

Use the application I posted to unlock anything that you can’t delete.

The Problem is spyware.

The very first thing you will need to do is register. (Registration is fast and free of Charge.)

Post your Hijack log. Read how: http://www.thetechguide.com/forum/index.php?showforum=4

Pinned: Removal and preventive tools
Pinned: Please Read: How to Post a Hijackthis log

Then you will need to wait for the expert on Hijack which is the moderator Questelo. He will be able to help you out.
