HI,

Q: Do I need to reinstall my modem?

I have an Intel P3, running WIN 98SE with an internal modem (3Com-56K PCI Voice) I’m able to connect to IE 6.0 and there are no yellow exclamations in Sys. Properties.  However a review of System Properties info. under the Components\Modem the system reflects that the following files: turbovbf.vxd, DOSbox.inf and turbovcd.vxd do not have a Modem Driver File Size or a File Date installed.  http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\':blink:\' />

In the last week I have uninstalled Earthlink Total Access 2004 and connect to IE 6.0 via Dialup Networking.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Win98SE internal modem.

At startup the computer detected a new modem and PCI... Windows automatically located the *.inf files for the US Robotic 3Com 56K Voice PCI but than it asked for for the original CD that contained DOSbox.inf

Well I didn't have that nor did my manufacturer provide me with me one, so I cancelled out and rebooted.
Windows now gives a warning msg: <A device that may be needed to run Windows or is required by an application is missing.  If you uninstalled the device...re-install.  Three files come up:  DOSBOX.ini (I know this is used to run pgm. in DOS) turbovbf.vxd and turbovcd.vxd if I hit any key (2x's) I gain access to Win98SE.  I checked the Control Panel and US Robotics PCI w/Dos Support is reflected.

Q:  Any ideas on where can I obtain the vxd files to avoid this error?

You can go to USR's site http://www.usr.com/support/s-main-menu.asp and download the drivers for your modem. You'll need to know the model number for your modem which you can get off of the modem itself or there is a modem id tool you can download from USR site as well.
