Please Help - Is SATA Slower?

http://images.thetechguide.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/unsure.gif\' class=\'bbc_emoticon\' alt=\'\' /> Help !!

I have just upgraded my PC with a new SATA Hdisk (Maxtor Diamondmax SATA 160GB 7200rpm etc....).

I have installed XP Pro (SP1) from scratch, and my PC now runs SLOWER !!!!

I have the latest SATA Drivers for my mobo (A7N8X-Deluxe, with latest Bios Ver. 1007), Sil 3112, Ver.1.0.0.32, Date 09/05/2003

I don't understand it....

I originally set it up with my existing Harddisk (Western Digital 120GB (Good Drive !)), and when I was transferring data between IDE Bus and SATA it was V.Fast (100MB in 2-3 Seconds). So I had high hopes for my new drive, but now it's in there on it's own, running the O/S - It's slllloooooowww.

It takes as long to boot into XP as my old build on my IDE drive (And that was seriously in need to a fresh install due to amount of games installed/removed over past year !)

SiSoft Sandre reports a score of 49Mbs - Which appears to be slower than a standard 7200rpm IDE Drive.

Am I wrong ??, Should it be faster ??

Any comments would be really appreciated (And apologies for all the (Brackets)'s !)
