I am trying to fix my niece's computer.
I had to install a new power supply. She wasn't getting any power
at all. I got that installed, turned it on...it booted extremely slow.
Never got the desktop all the way up. I got the task bar with the
start menu, and all, but nothing else.
did control/alt/del to reboot.
When it came up, it went to the screen to go into safe mode...I
hit enter to continue (figured I'd go into safe mode and check
for any conflicts and all).. it brought up the Scandisk screen,
then came back with error message, that scandisk couldn't read
fat on drive C. Scandisk can't fix the errors. I clicked OK, it
looked like it was going to continue to boot, but then it popped
up with the message "While initializing Device VKD, Windows Protection Error
You need to restart your computer"
I do a reboot, but can't get past the Scandisk Error or the VKd err..
I've determined that VKD error is a keyboard error (even though it
booted up to a point the first time...I turned it off, disconnected the
keyboard, reconnected, but still gives me the vkd error...even though
when I click enter key, it does the function okay.
My big problem is this scandisk error not being able to read the fat
file. How can I fix this and if not, what do I do from here? Do I have
to reformat hard drive and start over?
thanks,
Barbara
