"Default" Icon on desktop taking me to casinopalaz
« on: June 02, 2004, 08:05:16 PM »
An icon showed up on my desktop with an "X" on it.  I clicked properties and then target and it linked to this  "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE" http://www.casinopalazzo.com/index.php?sourceid=101969

How do I get rid of this?

Also, out of the clear blue after visiting a DEFINITE none-porn website (Bible software!) I get sent once in a while to www.myexexex.com ???????????  Embarrassing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please, someone help me.

Thanks!

Hey....  I have had the same thing bugging my system too.  Keeps coming back etc, and none of the ad/spyware killers or Norton seemed to help.  It kept loading a new connection called "rst" to my "Network Connections" (Dialup) folder , and would kick me off of my default connection.  It was weird because my modem speakers did not indicate any dialing occuring but when I picked up my phone, it was dialing a number (a long and no-doubt expensive number at that).  When I unplugged my cord, the dialer asked me if I wanted to try to connect again, and when I clicked "No", the "rst" connection dissapeared from the folder.

So I experimented a bit, and let it dial a few times while watching my task manager.  Over 3 attempts of the rst dialer, the process of "jkij.dat", "boef.dat", and "pmfg.dat" were dispayed in "Processes" (individually, not simultaneously).  They closed when I chose "no" to reattempt the rst connection (and the connection disappeared from my network connections folder).

*Note:  I also noticed when trying to get the dialer to take over that it would always disconnect me from my default connection when a link was opening in a new window, and not when I was just navigating through a site using only one window (some kind of trigger~i don't know)

From there, I did a search on "My computer" for "files containing the word" jkij.  I found the .dat and a Prefetch file.  When I opened the containing folder for each, the other two names were right below as well.  I was so sick of this bloody dialer, that I took the risk and deleted the files (just to the recycle bin so I can restore if things get messed up).  After rebooting I checked my connections, and the rst dialer was there but not trying to connect (it was always hidden unless it was trying to dial before), so I deleted that too.

This probably isn't the proper way to do it, so I wouldn't suggest it unless you're willing to take the risk like me (because you're ready to pull your hair out already).  I'm sure given a bit more time, the software (Ad-aware, Norton etc.) will figure it out and provide an update.

But I've logged off and on, played on the net etc, for a while, and it seems better.  I'll post again if the problem comes back.  Sorry for the long untechnical answer; hope this helps.
